“Comfy beds, and friendly staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2011

We stayed at this hotel because it had a very good rating, and the price was right. Since we were traveling with our 13 yr daughter, I also knew the pool would be a must in the summer, something the inns and bnb's do not have. We had a room facing the river, what a great view!! We loved the hotel, it was very clean, the beds are super comfy and the staff was very professional. The nicest Holiday Inn we have ever stayed at, by far. I thought the breakfast was adequate, eggs, bacon, pancakes, fruit - what more do you need when it's free? We loved the rooftop pool at night, after a long day - and what a great view! The a/c worked perfectly in our room - but we also left it cranking so that it would be cold at night when we returned. I could not have chosen a better location! One drawback: the rooms with balconies have more road noise than others. We moved next door after the first night, with the same great view (and no balcony) - and it was more quiet - however, we were on the 6th floor, luckily. We will be back, we miss it already!!

The location is perfect. Walk across the street to the riverfront and a few short blocks to everything else. The hotel was clean, clean, clean and that is important to us. Staff was very nice and parking not unreasonable ($15 per day for valet) given the location. However, the central air was inadequate for us (we like to sleep at below 70 degrees) and nothing could be done to pump up the A/C. So, we went to CVS and bought a fan for $30. We "donated" it to the hotel when we left, but we feel that a decent hotel should have fans on hand for guests especially when they must know their A/C is barely adequate (& they could have offered to pay us the $30 we paid for the fan they now have!). Breakfast was edible, but don't expect anything great. Overall, I would say that I would recommend the hotel without reservation, unless you also like it COLD when you go to sleep.

This hotel is right in the heart of the historic district in Savannah and it is just a minute walk from River Street and all the hustle and bustle. The rooms are very clean and modern and spacious enough. But what made this place stand out the most for us was the extremely nice and super friendly staff! The night manager was so very accomodating with getting us an fold-away bed (we were 5), and he booked us all our tours, and provided first hand information on so many of the sites. Everyone at this hotel made our stay very enjoyable and left us with great memories of Savannah. True southern hospitality!

My daughter and I made a trip to Savannah recently and stayed two nights at this HI Express hotel. I had never been to Savannah and had no idea where to stay or which part of town was best, but this turned out to be a good choice. Our room was clean, and everyone on staff was courteous and professional. The hotel is near the riverfront and convenient to a few restaurants and shops. We enjoyed the rooftop pool during our stay, both for swimming and just relaxing. Some tips - If you ask at the desk, they'll give you a list of restaurants that deliver - mostly pizza and sandwiches, but a great idea if you don't feel like going out. Also, I brought my hair dryer on this trip since the hotel did not list that among their amenities, but it turns out that they did supply one after all.

We stayed here on the first night of our trek to Orlando, and the staff was outstanding. The front desk was welcoming, helpful, and pleasant; and the attendant was exceptional. My husband went to park the car, and inadvertently took the room keys, and the attendant went back outside to get the key from my husband. He could have left my son and me to stand with all our luggage but didn't. Thank you! The room was clean and quiet. The only oops was the remote control: it was sticky. Everything else was very, very nice. And I'll assume this one thing was a true oversight. We would definitely stay here again!

While it would have been nice to stay in a historic, uniquely Savannah hotel, we traveled with our children (7 and 10) and thought the pool would be more fun. We were right. The pool is small, but a nice break from the touring. Hotel location was great, service fantastic, room clean and roomy. Bypass valet for the car, however. It's only $5 if you park yourself.

The hotel was very nice, with clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff (most of the time). The Corner King room that we had was awesome. We really loved the layout of the room, the superb bathroom and shower, and the great view.

Our stay on our first night was pretty much perfect, except for being awakened at 2:00am on 7/19 by a shrieking fire alarm that instructed us to evacuate the building. We gladly complied and walked down the stairs and outside where we were met by all the other hotel guests - and no hotel staff. There was no person of authority directing anything or anybody, but eventually a uniformed police officer showed up. The fire department did not show up at all. After about 15 minutes people started going back inside. A hotel staff person told everyone it was a false alarm, but they did not know the cause yet. They said that they did not call the fire department because they did not smell smoke. That explanation shocked me because I would rather have the fire department give the all clear, especially to eliminate the possibility that something was smoldering somewhere. The staff said they had not identified the cause of the alarm, but that we could all return to our rooms as long as we did not use the elevators, which were not working yet.. We chose to stay in the first floor lobby until the official "all clear" was given. Eventually, after more than an hour, we went back to our room and the situation appeared to just be an alarm malfunction, however, more communication and coordination would have been appreciated.

The next day, I asked a hotel staff person at the front desk what happened and she said the alarm was triggered by someone smoking in the stairwell. She said they had to go back and look at the security video to identify the person. I asked her if the guest was kicked out and she said yes. Slightly skeptical, I later asked a different staff member at the front desk and he said that nobody had any idea why the alarm went off, and that there was a guy that was closely monitoring it throughout the day.

All in all, our stay was good. I would not have faulted the hotel at all if the alarm were honestly explained in a timely and honest manner instead of leaving all the guests wondering for so long, and then coming up with different stories later.

I will probably go back again, but if the alarm goes off again for no reason in the middle of the night, I will definitely never go back.
