“Afternoon tea”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

Such a comfortable spot to relax and enjoy an afternoon respite. Full tea or just an afternoon snack...and I would recommend both. Convenient central location in the historic district.

“Delightful”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

Spent a week in Savannah and had many good meals, but this is the only place we chose to go back to for a second meal. Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service, and delightful food. The spinach pie and the quiche were superb, as was the smoked salmon. Very nice soups. Light food, well done. Don't miss it

“Wonderfully Delicious Find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2013

My college girlfriends were in town for a visit. We started out going to Mrs. Wilke's, but shied away from the lengthy line. One of the girls had heard of the Gryphon Tea Room. It ended up being one of our favorite places to eat out of the four day stay! It used to be a pharmacy years and years ago, but now looks as though you are sitting down to dine in the library of a fine, old home. The ambience is wonderful and not a bit like some frilly tea rooms I have visited. Our food was scrumpious and the wait staff (all from SCAD) were gracious and helpful. I can hardly wait to find another excuse to go!
Our group was dressed in nice casual, but this would be a wonderful place for a special occasion as well.
Oh, and the prices were most reasonable for the ambience and quality of the food. It also doesn't hurt that it is on the corner of a beautiful historic park and close to other neat little shops and a book store.

“Unique environment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

SCAD students are the wait staff. The quiche was cold. We sent that back while eating our salad we needed to ask for more salad dressing! Our waitress was apologetic as well as embarrassed. I would definitely give it another try. Reservations were needed.

“A refreshing change for lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

On our recent visit to Savannah, we ate here twice.

It's a really different place that the normal lunch spots in Savannah. It's in an old pharmacy that has kept all the wood display cases that have been turned into bookshelves and an absolutely gorgeous stained glass piece in the ceiling.

And the foods good. It's a bit more upscale than burgers and fries, with a nice selection of soups, salads, and sandwiches. On one visit, I had the french onion soup & a chicken sandwich. The french onion soup was great on a chilly day and the bread that the sandwich was on was a wonderful crusty french style bread.

On our second visit, I had a salad with a goat cheese medallions. Also excellent.

As a way to make them unique, they bring your bill inside one of the many old books lining the walls.

Warning, come early or make reservations. On both visits we arrived within 1/2 hour of opening. The 1st day there were 4 unreserved tables that filled within 15 minutes and the 2nd there were only 3. If you want a table that's not in the traffic pattern, you will need to have a reservation.
