Owner description: Devoted to the art of today, the contemporary Jepson Center links Telfair’s future with its past, unifying the museum’s three distinct sites. The building, designed by Moshe Safdie and opened to the public in 2006, features over 7,500 square feet of gallery space for major traveling exhibitions of contemporary art and installations of works from the permanent collection. Educational programming takes place in the 220-seat auditorium, community gallery, education studios, and ArtZeum—a unique, 3,500-square foot interactive gallery for children and families.

Lovely art museum located on the same square as the Telfair Museum. The exhibits change and on this visit there was a Marilyn Monroe and a slavery exhibit that I greatly enjoyed. The children's area is nice for kids to burn off some energy with some interactive activities.

Five or six exhibits at the moment. All most interesting. Slavery and Freedom is very important history and the Varnedoe is fine contemporary art. The photographs of New York in the '40's by Helen Levitt are rare. The Marilyn Monroe is a cultural phenomena. The multiple ways she is presented. But mainly , I must ask, why this obsession with a woman who burned out at age 36 in a not so glamorous fashion!
The architecture of the building though is worth the price of admission. Wonderful light spaces. A very well designed example of useful modern architecture

The kids area seemed interesting but we were disappointed in Marilyn Monroe's exhibit. Enjoyed the Street exhibit by Helen Levitt. Loved the work of contemporary artist James Nares who took today’s New York streets as his subject in his mesmerizing 61-minute high-definition video Street. Rozendaal's installation version of the website Looking at Something, which allows users to change the weather from sunshine to a thunderstorm in a window-like projection is brilliant. I wish I could have it installed in my home.

There are a few area for the kids and they did enjoy themselves in the interactive areas. However the galleries were not that great and had security guards that take their job way to seriously. I do not like being followed around as if I am doing something wrong. Bad judgment their part to hire a firm to act this way. Will not be back.
