I was really disappointed with the Thunderbird. What I expected was querky and hip. What I got was run down and dismal. The room we were given smelled strongly of bleach, the furnishings and bedding were worn and tired-looking, the door didn't lock properly and there were flies in the room.
To be fair the receptionist did her best to put things right and after I advised her that we weren't going to stay there, she arranged for a full refund of our money ( you have to pay in full up front).
In its favour the local is very good and I would imagine that students and back-packers would love it.

Please be aware that this motel does not offer free parking like it states. You do not find out until you see the parking fee charged on your credit card. When you call to inquire they tell you that this info is told when you check in but it was not. If you are going to charge for parking it ok as long as you don't advertise on every site that you offer free parking because $5.00 a day for parking in my world does not equal free

We never want to say one then do something else. We started charging for parking in May. I am sorry you felt like this was a deceptive. I assure you it wasn't.

Cute simple and clean . A couple of blocks from the riverfront and historic district. Some of the air condition units rumble too loud and the free breakfast us just donuts, but very nice clean hotel for the price.

This is an older motel with normal, every day rooms. It is located on the edge of the historic district and for it's location is reasonable priced The room, although obviously well used, was clean and comfortable with a very comfortable bed. There is a frig but no microwave. Bring soap as they supply liquid soap that is close to useless. Your own bathroom tissue is advised as the one supplied could be used for light sanding projects. The coffee maker is one cup at a time with a cooling off time of 10-15 minutes between brewing. In the office there are coffee urns that contain a decent quality coffee and an assortment of donuts close at hand. Nothing else is offered and restaurants serving breakfast are not within walking distance. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Considering all of the above I would still stay there again and recommend it, with a few caveats.

This was an excellent place for us to stay! We were a little hesitant when we first saw the pictures and realized it was a motel, but because of the TripAdvisor reviews, we decided to give it a try! We're SOO glad we did! It was a fantastic place to stay for the price- clean rooms, fun decor, great location, and excellent service! It's not the Ritz-Carlton, but it's a heck of a bang for your buck!

While The Thunderbird isn't a fancy 4 star hotel it certainly was fun. We stayed 3 nights, 6/7 - 6/10 in a king room. Because it was my birthday we received a 30% discount! That was a nice thing. This hotel sits on the outskirts of the Historic District; maybe 1-2 blocks. Walking was great, especially after eating your free Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the morning! The trolley services were about 1 block away and that was nice. I loved the old 60's style hotel. The a/c was cold, the beds were comfy, the free breakfast was nice, and the staff was great! We really enjoyed ourselves. Now it doesn't have all the amenities that the larger, fancy hotels had but we didn't spend a ton of time in our room either. We will most likely stay again. We do believe The Thunderbird is the coolest, hippest hotel in town!

Room Tip: 2 floors, we had a corner king room, it was plentiful. Refrigerator in the room. Nice place to stay.

Myself, my best friend, and her 17-yr old daughter spent 4 nights here. An excellent value for the money, and we were able to very safely walk to everything we wanted to do. The staff is friendly and very helpful, and the room was clean and nicely appointed. We highly recommend The Thunderbird and will definitely stay here again!
