Staff is friendly & informative, ready & able to point you in the right directions, and the place is stocked with plenty of brochures and leaflets, BUT location leaves a lot to be desired.

The Center is on the far South West edge of the historic area, and NOT very convenient to the historic center of town. Gut Feeling: town fathers had a vacant storefront to fill, and location was not their priority...

“Staff Extremely Helpful”
Reviewed November 18, 2012

The visitors' center staff members are ready to help (and direct) and are very knowledgeable about Savannah! This and the Massie Heritage Museum are the places to begin!

Amazing place to visit. I flew into Atlanta, rented a car, and drove into Savannah. Stayed at a Microtel in a town near Savannah. We joined the Bride and Groom's family at Paula Dean's Restaurant. OMG the food was fabulous!!! Downhome cooking was incredible!!! Her buffet included fried chicken, candied yams, greens, mashed potatoes, maceroni and cheese, cornbread, rolls, etc. Well worth the cost!!! My friend's wedding was beautiful!!! She had a wonderful ceremony on the beach on Tybee Island. And had her reception at a chapel nearby. All and all it was a lovely ocassion.

“Fabulous and busy visitor center”
Reviewed November 13, 2012 via mobile

I've been to many visitor welcome centers, but this one has so many interesting things going on! There is a Savannah historical 'walk through time', a ships walk of fame and a historical train depot with old cars to see. From the center you can embark on a trolley or bus tour. We did not participant in any of these things for lack of time. We did, however, eat at the cafe that is also there at the center! With a refreshment area and the cafe not one tummy should be empty. The cafe serves sandwiches, fries etc.

The welcome center staff (which there are plenty of staff!) are ready to help and very knowledgable about their great town!

Please note that you have to pay a small fee for the historical walk and the train area and of course refreshments.

“Great place to start your visit to the historic area!”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

I was kind of overwhelmed with not knowing where to go and how to get started enjoying the historic section of Savannah. I stopped at the visitor center and got to watch a very interesting movie on the area. The history is so interesting. I loved looking around the building and seeing this fabulous facility that yoused to be a train station. The parking lot always seemed to be filled with energy with all the tour busses lined up ready to take people on an adventure. I was able to capture some great photos here to help remember the start of my visit to the historic area.

I think one thing that could have added to the facility might be some really great old pictures with brief stories below them. However, I didn't pay to go through the museum and that portion probably had exactly what I wished to see!
