“Relaxing Tybee”
Reviewed July 21, 2008

Tybee was fun relaxing and simple. We didnt have to spend a lot of money to have fun, we visited The Crab Shack, Captian Mikes Dolphin tours, we went fishing and watched the dolphin follow the shrimp boats to the docks. We saw jelly fish, horshoe crabs, baby sharks, and baby sting rays. It was a fun experience we will visit Tybee again soon.

“Terrific Tybee!”
Reviewed June 20, 2008

What a wonderful and relaxing place to spend some time. I fell in love with the laid-back, undone feel of the island. Uncrowded beaches and none of that "touristy" feel at all. Great place to just hang out, ride bike, go for walks or settle on the beach with a great book. The island is simple to navigate and you can find all you need within a 3 mile radius. People were super friendly and very helpful. The seafood is to die for and I definately recommend StingRay's. Great bargin and delicious food. The folks at Mermaid rentals were so nice and the rates were so reasonable. The Seaglass cottage was so much more than I expected. I cannot wait to go again as a wonderful time was had by all.

“Very Relaxing”
Reviewed April 22, 2008

We took a drive out to Tybee one afternoon while in Savannah. It had a couple of Touristy spots, but over all, seemed very relaxed. A different feel from most beach areas in Cali'. We happened to be there at low tide and walked out onto the sand bars a good ways out. Not something you can do much on the west coast. Over all we found it very relaxing & grabbed lunch at Marlin Monroes, catchy name, It was nice, not Great but good & the service was good as well. I would recommend taking the 20-minute drive out if you get the chance.

“Group Trip to Tybee”
Reviewed November 12, 2007

June 2005 trip with our teens and their friends. Great weather and "okay" beach. We rented a three-bedroom condo on the beach and enjoyed our accommodations: One of the best parts of our trip. The Tybee websites we viewed showed a much more updated version of Tybee than we experienced. Coastal Georgia was a place our family had not visited and we knew little about Tybee. There really wasn't enough to keep them busy at Tybee. The beach was more run down than we had anticipated, but probably nostalgic and laid back for some. We enjoyed some of the restaurants on the beach that had live music and good, inexpensive food. Short drive to Savannah to shop and walk around. One day, out of boredom, we drove down the coast to Jekyll Island and St. Simons' Island. I wish I would have checked out the Georgia coast more thoroughly. We would have stayed @ St. Simons' Island. Tybee is good for middle-aged people who want to chill and feel a bit nostalgic about the laid-back days of the '60s, '70s and '80s and for locals. In 2006 we visited Myrtle Beach and found so much more to keep the teens occupied. We found a way to have fun on our trip, but I wouldn't recommend Tybee to most people.

“Beach Review”
Reviewed July 1, 2007

We just returned from a week's stay in Tybee Island where our rental house was a walk from the pier, a good location. The area around the pier had a typical "beach" atmosphere with souvenier shops and the like, but this part of town did look a bit run down. We thought the beach was kept fairly clean but there were some reeds strewn about. However, this did not bother us much unless the tide was in.

We at at The Crab Shack, Sting Ray's and Macelwee's in Tybee Island. All were pretty good but don't miss the Crab Shack if you love low country style seafood. It was also a great place to take kids as they had an alligator pit, rabbits (NOT in the pit!), various low-key cats and a dog wandering about outside. They have a fun website that gives a lot of info. We also heard The Breakfast Club was very good -- the chef there prepared the food for JFK Jr.'s wedding. Get there early in the AM -- lines form around the corner.

The location of Tybee Island is nice as it is only about 20 miles or so from Savannah, so there are other things to do if you are not solely a beach person. All and all it is a good place to go for a beach location, esp. with kids. We have been to Duck, NC and prefer that area as it is a little more refined, but there are likely more interesting things for kids to do at Tybee Island. I would recommend visiting the beach on a weekday as it was much more busy on the weekends and might make it more difficult to find a good place on the beach.
