“YUM!”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Out of a two-week road trip, my meal at River House Seafood was the BEST. The entire experience was amazing, and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Savannah. The restaurant wasn't crowded, even at dinnertime. We had a wonderful view of the ships going by. The service was great, and the food! Order their signature salad- and seafood, of course. Skip dessert (not their strong suit), but definitely eat here!

“Very good experience!”
Reviewed June 12, 2013 via mobile

We didn't have dinner plans for this evening and decided on a whim to try River House. They were not busy so we were seated and served promptly. Our server recommended we try one of the locally caught dishes. My wife had the flounder and I had the grouper. Both tasted fresh and were nicely prepared and presented.

While this place obviously caters to tourists, the staff was professional and made it a pleasant dining experience.

“Seafood thoughtfully prepared and served with a flourish”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

River Street can get pretty crazy with its throngs of tourists and bars that spill out onto the sidewalk. River House Seafood offers an oasis of reserved tranquility. The interior walls are over a foot thick of solid brick and there is the faintest waft of New Orleans jazz playing. Seafood is thoughtfully prepared and served with a flourish. The staff can be a bit chatty, so I wouldn't describe it as "formal" dining, but the overall experience seems always seems very special. We like Sundays at lunch time, which can turn into a languid afternoon of people watching if you get seated by the windows. The Chatham Artillery Punch will appeal if you are a history buff or a lush (or both). It predates George Washington's visit to Savannah and he supposedly had more than a sip or two while he was there. Google the recipe if you are curious. The main problem is that they serve 22 ounces, which could put you down for a good long time. Our waiter offered a "sample" which I shared with wife, and we BOTH got woozy. (Normally non-drinkers here.) Best bet is to hit happy hour, when they serve a 16 ounce version at a reduced price. That would be a little more manageable, especially if you split it with someone. The shrimp and grits has a deep tomato base and is flavored with tasso ham and other Cajun seasonings. It comes as an appetizer or entrée, and you don't want to miss it. The crab and lobster bisque has an entirely different but equally delicious tomato base. The crab cake is outstanding.

“Try the Chatham Artillery Punch! (they'll give you a sample)”
Reviewed June 10, 2013 via mobile

My fiancee and I went on a Sunday night so this review is based on our experience at that time. Our deciding factor for picking River Street was wanting seafood, Tubby's and the area further down felt very "touristy" and loud. We didn't have to wait for a table, the service was good. I loved the interior with the old wood/brick/stone. The food was surprisingly great. I'm not much for seafood but ordered the blackened mahi mahi with fettuccini and loved it. Fiancee had lobster bisque and scallops and wasn't disappointed. We took the advice of others and ordered the Chatham Artillery Punch. It has almost every liquor but the kitchen sink but tasted sooo smooth! Very nice last meal before heading back home.

“Great atmosphere, mediocre food”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Service was excellent and the location and atmosphere was great. However, the food was just ok and it was very pricey.
