“Great Funky Artsy Hotel near all the City Squares and Midnight in the garden area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2011

Stayed here for a 3 night trip to Savannah, GA. Great room for couples. Had a Giant hot-tub in the bathroom with a peek-a-boo double door which opened to the bedroom. Great Southern Chandalears(sp?) and Local funky artwork throughout the hotel. Greated by a doorman and close to a beatifull park(Forsyth) and close to the downtown area. We were very glad we stayed here! and very impressed by the room,it's size and furnishings. The walk was about 1/2 an hour to the waterfront but well worth it is you get to experience some of the best parks/squares on the way down bull street to the touristy savannah waterfront. I really enjoyed strolling around the local area and seeing the architecture and old southern oak lined streets. Beautiful!!! Will come back! Great Hotel.

Stayed here for three nights. The hotel itself is very beautiful and the location, across the street from one of the largest parks in Savannah was great. We also liked that the hotel was away from the busier tourist district.
While the ambiance of the hotel is romantic, the rooms large and the bath area great, I think the hotel is starting to show its age. The carpet in our room was a little worn and the grout lines in the bath area were a little stained, as were some of the lines in the shower area. There was also a bit of mold on the ceiling of the shower area. However, the sitting tub was exactly what is needed after waling around the historic district all day. The sink drained a little too slow, quite possible it clogged
The staff was attentive and Overall, I’d recommend this as a place to stay for a romantic getaway

My husband and I (early 50's) stayed at the Mansion for 1 night. We got a great rate through Travelzoo and were in room 435 with access to the Concierge suite with all the lovely complimentary snacks and beverages you'd like (wine costs extra.) Much has been written in other reviews about the unique decor, and you can view the photos posted here and judge for yourself--but for me, there's nothing more wonderful than sharing your suite with an original oil painting. I especially loved the large wildlife paintings and photographs hanging in the first floor of 700 Drayton, the adjoining restaurant. Once you check in at the Mansion, you'd better reduce your speed. Relax and enjoy your surroundings with the sense of wonder they deserve, and you'll be fine.

The location on Forsyth Park allows you to get out and stroll all the way down through the Historic District to the river. Don't power walk! You'll miss the small, lovely details that make Savannah so unique-the crumbling pot of flowers exploding with color, the dapper old gent in seersucker and a handlebar mustache walking his terrier with a St. Patrick's Day collar. In fact, you can wander throughout the city all day, then arrive at the front door of the Mansion's sister hotel, the Bohemian (on River Street) and ask the Bohemian's doorman to have the shuttle come pick you up. You can retire to your room, have a bath in that fabulous tub, and enjoy an elegant meal at 700 Drayton or have drinks at the bar at Cashmir's with some tapas and a jazz band.

The night of our stay, the hotel fire alarm went off at 12:30am. We were startled out of a sound sleep, but somehow all the guests managed to quietly and calmly evacuate the building without incident. We had to wait for awhile and luckily we were evacuated into the parking lot and napped in our car until we got the all-clear. The staff did an outstanding job of getting us out of the building and keeping us informed. The next morning, the manager left a letter of apology under every door and opened the restaurant for a complimentary breakfast for all guests. It was the appropriate gesture to repay us for the inconvenience. The breakfast was delicious, with steel cut oats, perfectly scrambled eggs, and mimosas!

The Mansion on Forsyth Park is truly a reflection of Savannah and the south. It's built for comfort, not speed--thank goodness. This is our second stay here and we will definitely be back. If you're debating about hotels in Savannah, I'd go ahead and mash that reservations button for the Mansion!

We randomly decided to try out Savannah on a romantic getaway evening and picked the hotel based on TI reviews and were not disappointed. On the way from the airport, our tax driver informed us that the "Mansion" is actually one of the most "haunted" hotels in Savannah, which says a lot for Savannah. Apparently it was an old mortuary and the elevators make you feel that way. The hotel is really one of the coolest I've been to with its design, art, restaurant and bar(s). The room was very decadent and tasteful and had a big bath in the room (careful if the floor gets wet though it could lead to a nasty slip). The Mansion is also in an insanely good location directly outside Forsyth park where you can go take easy picture of the famous fountain. Overall an amazing stay and will 100% go back for our next trip to Savannah, whether next year or 10 years from now. Kimpton hotels have not failed us yet.

Traveling for a mother/daughter get-away, this hotel fit the bill. The room was spacious with two queen beds and well-decorted. The spa was great, the cooking class was excellent, and we even managed to spend money in the upscale gift shop.

The staff was very helpful and certainly aimed to please. The free taxi service was amazing. We used it at night, as we walked everywhere during the day. Across the street from the hotel was the park cafe where we'd buy Starbucks coffee each morning.

The only complaint was the lack of small amenities in the bathroom. There was next to none. I couldn't believe that for a hotel of this caliber, they didn't even have shower caps. When I called to report that I needed one, they sent one up from the spa quickly.

Aside from that, we enjoyed the ambience and location of this hotel.

I have to admit to being slightly disappointed in the Mansion on Forsyth Park, though make no mistakes it is a nice place.
The exterior is lovely and it borders a beautiful park. It's also not too far from Mrs. Wilkes, the one truly unmissable (lunchtime) restaurant if you go to Savannah.
I didn't even mind the location. I think for an older or disabled person, it probably is a bit too far from the "main" part of Savannah. But for anyone else, the best part of Savannah is strolling through the plazas and so a 15 minute walk to and from the area each day is hardly a problem.
It was the rooms that kind of disappointed to me. I love boutique hotels, and have stayed at many around the world, but here I found them more kitschy than trendy. There was also something slightly cold about the interiors- design without comfort. That said, this is the deep South not Miami, so in a way the tacky, slightly trying too hard to be cool thing, sort of fit notions I had of the South-- as if Blanche DuBois had designed it. I honestly think my mom or aunt would love the place, but this New Yorker just didn't go gaga for it. I give it points for personality though.

Wow...what a treat. We made a great decision to stay here vs the Bohemian Hotel on the River. The art decor very pleasing and the delightful staff were very accommodating for my special occasion (babymoon). We were upgraded to the concierge level overlooking the park. Although we had a little noise issue within the AC panel, they immediately switched us to another room the next morning. We got moved to room 205 overlooking the beautiful park across the street. This was a fantastic room and would specifically request this corner room. If you have kids, the park is awesome with every walks of life out there, many dogs around, kids playing kickball, and we watched a rugby football game. Fun, easy walk to the river (about a mile but great scenery that you would need to see by foot anyway).
We also had a great lunch at the attached mansion restaurant. It was surprisingly unbelievable and one of the coolest mansions to walk around in. My wife did the spa treatment and was very pleased.

The shuttle takes you anywhere downtown so very convenient.

Again, I highly recommend this place. Glad its part of the Marriott family. I will post some pics as well that were not part of the stock photos
