Yes, we waited in line. This time we were first (second time). The fried chicken is perfect. The vegetable sides are very southern...try some of each and experience what true southern comfort food is all about. Open 11 - 2 Monday through Friday. This unusual family style restaurant tradition is carried on by the family. Loved it! Cash only....$18 for adults.

If you enjoy family style service, this is your place! And the food is pure Savannah. You will not go hungry or go wrong by going to Mrs. Wilkes'. Just be very sure to get there early to get in line for the lunch seating. Website has a lot of helpful info.

I had no idea what to expect when I went to Mrs. Wilkes Boarding House. Served family style and enjoyed almost all of it. Of course the best part was chatting with all the other people at the table who came from other countries and states. I found it to be very authentic "Boarding House" experience as you would imagine it might be when strangers meet in a parlour to eat dinner. If you want a private booth and fancy personalized service - this wouldn't be the place to go but if you are going to embrace the novelty of a new experience and some wonderful fried chicken and southern cooking - it is a definite must. Come hungry - it is a LOT of food.

Although you have to stand on line to get into the restaurant it was well worth the wait. The food
was much better than Paula Dean's restaurant. A real southern menu. Most enjoyable.Would
definitely recommend.

Where do I begin? When I first ever visited Mrs. Wilkes, I didn't know what to expect. The line was wrapped around the block. After standing in line for about an hour and a half, I finally got inside, only to see the family style setting. You sit at a table with your friends/family and with others you may or may not know. It is awesome. It gives you a chance to get to know other people all while having a southern, family style meal. They have every vegetable you can think of and the BEST fried chicken. And I love the fact that they bless the food before eating. It is quite refreshing. If you don't want to sit with other people then this is not the place for you, but if you can overlook that, you will be amazed at how awesome the food is and how nice people are. I would suggest getting there to stand in line by 9:45 and expect to go inside at 11. Lunch is served from 11-2 Monday-Friday. It is worth the wait. It is way better than Paula Deen's restaurant. And if you love restaurants that make you feel welcomed, Mrs. Wilkes is the place for you. You can also buy Mrs. Wilkes cook book. You may have heard of Paula Deen's restaurant BUT once you try Mrs. Wilkes you will never go back to Paula's. Every time I visit Savannah, It is a must that I eat at Mrs. WIlkes. It is hands down one of the best southern food places I've ever had. Two thumbs up!
