Went here for my beau's birthday lunch. Right away I felt a bit awkward.
The staff was very friendly, very attentive but their uniforms were inappropriate. The female staff were all in very tight, very short black cocktail dresses and ill fitting blazers. This was 11:00 in the morning. Obviously, Chive is more of a late night spot, but the uniforms made the girls appear if they hadn't been home from a night of partying. The male staff, however, were appropriately dressed. o.O
On to lunch-- we started with the cheese plate. Tiny, tiny portions of cheese and a few stale crackers. The cheese plate consisted of a hard, hard parmesan, brie, cheddar, and blue-- they all looked very cheap--Hardly high end selections. The olives on the plate looked as if they had come from the bar caddy from the previous night- squished and mushy. We also had a few grapes. All of this for $16 or so.
Thinking I'd be somewhat full from the cheese, I ordered a salad, the casear. I was intrigued by the use of prosciutto. This was a mistake. I don't know how a restaurant of this reputation can ruin a salad, but they did. The croutons were obviously store bought as was the dressing. Seriously, kraft dressing and New York Texas brand croutons. gross.
The birthday boy seemed to enjoy his dish, the sea bass, but was not impressed enough to give Chive another try.
