We enjoyed our self guided tour of the facility. We were there for the guided tours of the "extra" "off limit" areas and had a great tour guide. Highly recommended.

This was definitely worth the stop. As we arrived we were told we could go for a short train ride. All you really do is ride on the turn table and 100 feet down a track. It is definitely a fun experience although it wasn't that long. Plus you pretty much get full range of the entire musuem to see all of the old buildings. I would say to appreciate this place fully you have to appreciate history and trains. If you do, you would love this place. Also, all the money goes towards restoration and preservation which is getting more important everyday. Skip a junk shop and spend an afternoon here.

This rail yard containing a roundhouse gives you a great understanding of how trains were garaged and repaired. I had a tour guide who explained how the rail yard functioned and how trains were repaired. This tour also includes the other buildings on the premises. I recommend taking a guided tour, there is no additional charge.

There are plenty of activities and attractions inside the museum gate: self-guided and guided tours of rolling stock and grounds, short train tours of the grounds by steam or diesel depending on season, model railroading exhibit, and a bookstore. Site presents an excellent balance of social history and industrial history/archaeology interpreted through several wayside exhibits and scores of artifact exhibits throughout the property. What the site may lack in rolling stock is offset by the stabilization and restoration of many buildings in the shop complex and terminal facility. If you want a special treat be sure to request a "cab ride" on the No. 30 steam locomotive - coal smoke, cinders, steam, heat, loud whistle, and excellent interpretation by the engineer and fireman. Also remember to take a short ride on the hand car. Had as much fun as the kids.

My husband and I really enjoyed the tour of the rail cars and the train ride. My husband got a kick out of all the old equipment.
