Courtyard Savannah Downtown/Historic District
Ranked #42 of 116 Hotels in Savannah
Reviewed February 4, 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights and had a great time.

First of all, great price! We didn't think much of it from the online photos, just needed a place to sleep. So we were pleasantly surprised to find the Courtyard looks much better in person. The rooms are great. Nice, clean and modern bathroom ;)

Now, the best thing about this hotel is the location. It's situated at the very edge of the downtown historic district, but everything (in the HD) is easily accessible. A city of squares indeed. If you need info, the visitor center is across the street. If you need a midnight snack, there are a few that open late 5 mins away. A bit further and you will have many more options. The tour buses also stop near the Visitor Center so that's also very convenient for tourists. Oh, another advantage of choosing the Courtyard over other hotels that are right in the middle of it is the noise level. It gets very quiet at night, perfect!

Staff were also very helpful and polite. A+++

The only problems I had with the Courtyard are:
1. Super slow internet. I mean super slow. We visited Charleston before coming here and at the Francis Marion Hotel, I was able to pull 20/20mbps speed. Here, I barely hit 2-3mbps, but in reality, it's much slower than that. Websites take a while to load. Also, there's a 3-device limit/room. You can upgrade the net but at $5/night. Ouch.
2. The breakfast buffet is mediocre. I mean, it's okay with very basic stuff (egg, bacon, sausage etc).

But these are just minor issues and I would still rate this hotel "Excellent". Definitely recommend if you're visiting Savannah anytime soon.

This is a nice Courtyard Marriott right in the historic district, parking is available, right on the street for free. We had the continental breakfast it was good, they have a nice lounge and bar service downstairs. We receive a room upgrade because of my status, and ended up with a very nice king suite. No complaints about this hotel, can't wait to come back on our next trip to Savannah.

We stayed here only one night. The staff was phenomenal. Helpful and accommodating in every way. We were a little put off by the parking fee ($15), but found that all the hotels in the historic district do the same. It is worth the price to know your vehicle is safe for the night. While the room could have stood a bit of a remodel, the bed was one of the most comfy I've slept in hotel wise in years. Check out time was noon, very unusual, but good to know they employ enough staff to turn rooms over quickly

Dear Allison R,
Thank you for your review! Thank you also for the comments about our staff. They do a great job.

Parking in Savannah is limited and can be a challenge and we try to make this one less thing that you have to worry about when you visit us.

Noon check out is the least we can do for our guests. It makes for a nice relaxing morning if you choose to take advantage of it.

Thank you for your time,

I stayed in this hotel for a week 3 years ago before room and lobby renovations. I enjoyed it but didn't remember much about the hotel. From the moment we checked in on this visit, the staff made us feel welcome and went out of their way to help us. Evan at the front desk has an outstanding smile and very friendly manner: he even upgraded our room. Chris, the concierge, was also quick to smile and greet us when we came in or out. Our beautiful room, a king suite, was beautifully and comfortably furnished. India, the housekeeper, did a lovely job everyday and is a sweet and friendly person as were all the housekeeping staff we spoke with. Down in the bar, situated in the beautiful new lobby with many comfortable conversation areas, we had many friendly chats with Linda. Another Marriott employee who makes us want to return to this property simply by making us feel welcome. Vicky works in the bar and the breakfast area and couldn't have been more polite and welcoming. We appreciated all these staff members and the kindness with which we were treated. Check in and out were very efficient. We never waited for service of any kind. Valet parking was also quick, polite, and friendly. The rooms have plenty of storage. We even had a microwave and mini fridge. The hotel location is great for access to City Market, the cathedral, and the Visitors Center. We highly recommend this hotel and will return soon.

We stayed in a king room at this hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is very convenient to city market, river street. Everything was within walking distance. The hotel was clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were great! I always check mattresses, etc. when we arrive at a hotel and the mattress in our room looked almost brand new! The room was equipped with everything except a microwave (there was one in the lobby if needed). There is a nice outdoor patio and swimming area. We didn't eat the breakfast because it seemed high for what was served, plus we wanted to try the local places.

We didn't like the valet only parking at the hotel. We had never used it before and wasn't sure how the tipping worked. We wanted to be sure we didn't short change any of the valets and be known as lousy tippers lol. The only complaint I had was the day we did use the car, I called to request it and it took a long time. We had to ask about it (they had forgotten us), but it was during check out time and it wasn't that big of a deal to us. The hotel needs to get some control over the valet area. As we were waiting for our car, I noticed several people who loaded up their car and left it sit there for a long time (while they went for breakfast) which caused a back up of others trying to leave. I just thought it was very rude of the people to leave their car in the area for a long time leaving very little room for the valets to bring out other cars and causing delays for guests. Overall this is a very nice hotel and we will definitely stay here again!!

Dear redsfan13,
First let me thank you for taking the time to write a review for our hotel. I am very glad to hear that you found the hotel clean and comfortable.
We appreciate you feedback in regards to our valet operation. We do try to keep the drive clear to allow for easy in and out access. It does pose a challenge if cars are left too long. I am sorry that you had that experience.
Thank you for the feedback and for your time. I hope we see you again soon.

Thank you,
Derrick Pair

This hotel is a few blocks from City Market and extremely close to the Visitors' Center and the SCAD Museum. The staff was helpful and professional. There are five floors; I was located in a king suite on the fifth floor. The room was big and very clean. The bathroom featured a separated shower and Jacuzzi. So needless to say, the bathroom was big. The room had a refrigerator but no microwave. The microwave was downstairs near the front desk. As far as refreshments and food go there is a daily assortment of coffee on the main floor and an ice water dispenser featuring orange, lemon, or pineapple slices to flavor the water. There is a buffet; it is not complimentary. For some reason, I thought it would be. The staff at the breakfast buffet was also professional. The seating is very comfortable and the buffet is pretty good although since you have to pay you could also venture out to local eateries. My biggest disappointment was the distance between the hotel and City Market. It is walking distance but it's not a walk you want to keep doing especially late at night. For me, it was about a fifteen minute walk to City Market. There were a lot of families at this hotel so it seems favorable for people with children but don't get me wrong, the hotel is not a noisy place at all. Overall, it was a very good hotel, away from City Market but close to other attractions. For it being a little ways from City Market, I did not see a hotel shuttle service, but that does not mean it does not exist.

We stayed 3 nights in a room looking out the front of the hotel. Just across the way is office and departure point for Savannah Trolley Tours. A block away we found a Cuban restaurant which we also enjoyed.
The hotel is clean and located just at the southern edge of the Historic District. Our breakfast-included rate provided a good breakfast buffet; WiFi service was excellent, staff was cordial.
Only negatives: No safe box in the room, morning coffee was weak and non-energetic, parking cost $15/day
