This morning my wife and I had the wonderful experience of touring Bonaventure Cemetery with Susan as our guide. So many of the stories of 17th, 18th and 19th Century Savannah end in Bonaventure Cemetery. Susan is a born story teller. She has the breadth and depth of knowledge from which to draw the details that make the stories of and memorials to those buried in the plots come alive. Her humor, energy and enthusiasm are boundless. She encourages questions and uses them as opportunities to briefly digress into interesting areas just beyond the planned scope of the tour. Like every naturally talented teacher Susan keeps it interesting, lively and, most importantly, whets one's appetite for much more information about the subject.

Susan' tour of Bonaventure is well worth the price. Be advised, though, this is not a "ghost" or paranormal tour. There will be no mention of that. You will have to take another of Susan's tours for that. But some of the things she will recount about some of the people buried in Bonaventure are definitely stranger than fiction.

The Bonaventure Cemetery is located in a beautiful setting along the river. The stories and history provided by our guide Andee, were interesting and entertaining. Andee was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She was able to provide us with the meaning and symbolism behind the amazing sculptures we were seeing in order to fully appreciate what the sculptor was portraying. This outing would not have been near the experience had we attempted doing it on our own. Take water and a comfortable pair of shoes. Well worth the walk and the money!

My wife and I visited Bonaventure cemetery on our own the first day. We drove around and took some pictures, but did not feel like we got much out of it besides some nice views on our own. The next morning we decided to take the tour with Susan as our guide. She has a great knowledge of Savannah and does a wonderful job bringing to life the culture and history of the city through the tales of some of the families buried in the cemetery. This is not a ghost tour or a tour filled with haunted stories. She explains the history and much of the symbolism used in different monuments that creates a picture of the customs and culture of the time. This was the most informative part of our trip. The trolley rides are great to get layout of the city, but the tour of Bonaventure Cemetery with Susan gives you the feeling of the culture and history. Without the tour, you can enjoy the beauty of the cemetery on a surface level. The tour really helps you to appreciate what you are seeing and to gain a deeper understanding of Savannah. Well worth the money.
