“Hotel stay over Memorial Day”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 26, 2013

The hotel is located across the river from the main dining and shopping areas. It is accessible by ferry but can be very inconvenient. The hotel has a lovely view and nice rooms. However, in the two nights that we stayed here the room was never serviced.

Because you are somewhat trapped on the other side of the river, you must eat most meals in the hotel. Although the staff is very accommodating, the choices of food is very limited, expensive and of poor quality.

I would only return if I was to attend a conference or wedding here. There are other options on River-street and in town..

I never imagined I would actually get to stay here anytime soon, based on the $250/night (for the cheapest room) price tag I saw online. So imagine my surprise when this is what we got when we booked through Hotwire's (what I call) "mystery hotel" deal. For around $130/night we got a double bed room on the 7th floor, overlooking the river and pool. I was pleased.

The resort is grand and beautiful. You have to drive across the river to get there, so its surroundings are definitely more quiet and peaceful. You don't have the hustle and bustle of the city. Check in was quick, and service was friendly with a smile. That good ole southern hospitality that's expected around these parts! Our room was clean, and pretty modern. We would have preferred a queen, but the double bed room wasn't the hotel's fault.

Let's talk location. This seems to be the biggest issue with folks. There is a ferry that takes you to and from the resort, and runs every 15 minutes, free of charge. Well, they stop running at 11:45p.m., or midnight. So if you plan to party it up wee into the morning hours, better take a cab back. My husband doesn't do boats. So we took a cab both ways. It's only around $10, but that's $20 RT, not including tip... Your best bet is to take your car and park it in one of those $5/day parking decks, if cabs are an issue for you. We only went into town twice, as there is plenty to do at the resort for one day. You have the pool, bar, restaurant, golf, and spa.

We brunched at the Aqua Star restaurant. It was just okay... $18/p for the hot buffet, but what do you expect from a hotel restaurant? The bar was good, and pretty much had my husband at, "Would you like that beer to go, sir?" Whaaat?! "Absolutely!!" We took the hotel's complimentary shuttle to the golf course, which is just right down the road. My husband had nothing but wonderful things to say about their golf course. (A PGA tournament golf course, I might add) And wifeys (or significant other/family/friend) get to ride for free, and not have to purchase a silly expensive polo shirt, cause let's face it... I was just trying to get my tan on. (Take sunscreen, btw... this southern sun is no joke!) By the time we got to the back 9 holes, I was ready for a spa treatment, which is in the same building as the club house (smart!). I booked an hour long massage. Probably one of the best spas I have been to. Complimentary mimosas, champagne, cucumber water, sauna, steam room... they had it all. $125 + tip for a massage though... it SHOULD come with all that!

Overall, we had a nice relaxing enjoyable weekend at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf & Spa. We would definitely return, when in the mood for a little luxury, and money to splurge. Here's what you'll get out of it that the other hotels can't offer you: A relaxing vacation where you almost feel like you're on a tropical resort. If you stay downtown, you may or may not hear drunk idiots yelling at 3a.m. outside your window... Yes, that happened to me on a previous trip. I think it is worth the splurge, but if your plan is to spend most of your time in downtown, and boats and cab fares bother you, I'd look into staying in town. We loved it. Thank you, Hotwire!

Let me start by saying the hotel itself is very beautiful, with lovely views of the city from the riverfront facing rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful. There appears to be a genuine commitment to customer service. But I would not recommend staying in this hotel if you are in Savannah primarily to tour the city. (We were there because my husband had a meeting at the hotel). They are located across the river from Savannah's historic district. You have to take a ferry to get into the downtown. Although the ferrys are free and run every half hour, it was inconvenient to not be able to walk out he door whenever and be in the city itself. There aren't many dining options in the hotel itself and none that I could see outside the hotel on the island. So unless you need to be there for a meeting or to play golf, a mainland hotel or B&B would be a better choice.

Room Tip: The higher floor, riverfront rooms have a beautiful view.

This is a lovely property. We stayed in December, so the Christmas decorations were up. They were well done and included a gingerbread house contest with all entries displayed and the winners noted. The grounds were well groomed and even at night they were pretty. The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. We will stay here again.

No problems- watch the ships pass by, the ferry scuttles too and fro. The scene is spectacular. Savanna laid out across the river.
The manager must tear his or her hair out working for corprate where some great artsy fartsy publicist is in charge of the lunch which depicts a beautiful sandwidge on the corporate printed very special page. This same sandwidge is probably unavailable in all Westins. If the same thinking applies to the corporation, they must have infinite respect for those who use the restaurant - "let's educate our guests. This is a sandwidge . We don't make them like this but thought you might be interested in what a sandwidge looks like" - then we can expect nonsense all round. Maybe Westin only employ one idiot.
The salad dressing was distinctly uninspiring. Other restaurants I have visited in Savannah seem to love grease or oil - will update . Not a culinary epicenter so far.

Room Tip: View of the city - this means the river.

I had the opportunity to play golf during a recent trip to Savannah. First of all, the city is absolutely beautiful and a great place to spend a few days or a week, exploring the south and all of its historical charm.

I played golf with a small group of friends at the Westin Harbor Golf Resort in early April. The course was about three weeks away from holding their annual Senior PGA event. The conditions were fantastic and a great time was had by all. The course played great if you kept the ball straight. There are plenty of sand traps and some water to worry about. The back nine is particularly scenic as a few holes are along the river.

There is hole - Alligator Alley (#14) that had about thirty small alligators in and around the reeds. I never saw the mama but she had to be somewhere. We did come across a few larger alligators, so its best to heed the advice and not go looking too far for your ball.

Not a negative on the course but more of a recommendation, in the evening, you better bring some bug spray as the mosquitos are out in full force.

I would highly recommend this course to anyone in and around Savannah.

Can't say enough good things about this establishment. You come to expect certain things from a Westin resort, and Westin Savannah not only lived up to these expectations, it far exceeded them. The grounds were beautiful and kept immaculately clean. Each member of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and we would clearly recommend to anyone staying in Savannah (who doesn't mind being a very short ferry ride away from the historic district, that is). Special thank you to Collin who took the time to make sure that everything was great during our stay. Bravo!
