“Our first visit but we'll return..”

We generally go south a few times a year both on business and pleasure. When we drive rather than fly we have stopped in Savannah but this resort seemed a bit out of the way ( given that one of us, is focused on our ultimate destination : )
On our last trip we decided to try out this hotel and it was an excelent decision. The location on the river across from the city affords a beautiful view of the skyline and the ocean going ships that pass in front of the hotel. The hotel wisely has bistro tables and chairs on the many room balconies to enjoy the view. ( We enjoyed it from inside the room in spite of a light rain).
The combobar/bistro on the first floor has outdoor seating but is a bit small and could be crowded in inclement weather. Room service had similar food so we opted for it. A former reviewer wasn't happy so perhaps the hotel management took note as we had an excellent experience and we're discriminating. One of us had a Grouper Reuben and the other had Salmon on a bed of spinach with pomegranate sauce. We were told it would take 35 minutes and it arrived on time, hot and perfectly cooked. We were on the 15th floor which is a good distance from the kitchen; Clarence our congenial waiter hustled to serve us.
We left early in the morning and the car valet/bellhop had our car out waitng as he cheerfully
took our bags and bade us goodbye. As we left the lobby, we took a quick last look at the many creative gingerbread houses that had been part of a local contest and gave a festive air to the hotel. It was a great experience overall and we'll be back to enjoy it again.

Room Tip: A river front room provides a great view. If you don't plan to use the resort amenities and if y...

This was our second time staying here....it was much more lively in the summer and I was worried they wouldn't have much going on for our kids. But they made up for it by giving us a smores kit and had a fire pit going in the evening. They also had put cheese, crackers, and wine in our room while we out. (We are Starwood Gold members though) Plus the pool was warm even though it was winter. The kids really liked the croquet court. It's just a beautiful hotel.

We stayed at the resort for two nights between fla and nyc. We arrived late as the restaurant was closing and they still sat us. The food was great. The hotel is decorated so lively for the holidays. The room was great and pet friendly!!!

Apparently "4 star" doesn't take service into consideration. Our room wasn't ready, so they said they'd call. Never did. Once we asked for the room, it wasn't what we had reserved. (They fixed this.) Requested a fan and robe, they never showed. Ordered room service, it never came. Opted for one cleaning during our week long stay and after confirming the cleaning day with the front desk and receiving a notice they would clean that day, they never did. Aqua star took 1 3/4 hours for dinner (with 2 kids to amuse). Walked out on breakfast the next day because the service was again so slow. The location, while beautiful, is difficult because you are completely dependent on the ferry (which doesn't run on holidays - wish someone had mentioned that). When we expressed concern to the front desk staff, their response was to become defensive. My husband followed up via email and received no response. So much of our frustration was in the details - we didn't get washcloths, the lobby was so crowded with decorations that it was impossible to cross, the trash and laundry bins sat in the hallway all day every day. Just a very unpleasant experience overall.

I've had the opportunity to stay at this hotel every year for the last 4 years while attending an annual conference in September
The rooms are your average Westin rooms and the beds are to die for ( the most comfortable and on par with the Ritz-Carlton). The towels are soft and not thin and scratchy, the bathroom/tub was spotless and the carpet was clean (yes, these things are important:-).
The staff members we helpful and attentive (even charging my phone at the front desk while I attended a meeting). The restaurants were overpriced (the food was good), but its a convention hotel and is expected.
One downfall.....during low tide I could smell the swamp in my room....can't explain it, but if you've ever been in a swamp or passed by one, you know the odor I'm referring to and its not pretty. My room faced the front of the hotel, not the river so this could be the reason.
Still a good hotel and with dependable ferry service to the river walk.

Thank you for choosing the Westin Savannah and for sharing your comments with us. I am happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that our staff was very helpful and attentive to you. We are proud to provide our Heavenly bed and plush towels for our guests and I am pleased to know you found them to be most comfortable.

The primary odor we experience in Savannah comes from the International Paper Mill. Weather conditions come into play and affect the odor. Wind direction, temperature and low humidity result in the strong odor your experienced. This is noticable from time to time but is not permanent and there are no health affects. International Paper's Savannah Mill is in full compliance with all applicable environmental rules and regulations. They have spent tens of millions of dollars on environmental performance improvement projects and in fact, the mill has reduced odor by on 99% in the last 15 years. The Resort is committed to constantly improving operations in ways that benefit our guests and at the same time, we have no control over the weather which causes the odor you mentioned. We apologize for these challenges. Our main priority at the Resort is to provide Personal, Instinctive and Renewal experience to all of our guests. Thank you again for your comments and we do hope you have another opportunity to visit the Resort in the near future.

Even though we were travlling on awards....and had booked into another Westin in Hilton Head and accidentally turned up in Savannah, the receptionist was great simply calling the awards office and rearranging our booking. The restaurant is very good and the chef very welcoming. Food was high quality.

We had a great room with a view of the river. A 90 second free ferry ride and you are on River Street on the heart of the waterfront in Savannah. It was my first time in Savannah and it was just wonderful. The staff was courteous and diligent in assisting us, and all advice was wonderful. Although I guess maybe they are used to dealing with more infirm people. There were two places that we asked about that they told us we would need to drive to, but once we were across the river, they were only about 8 blocks. Very easy to walk. Lovely fresh clean spacious room with extremely effective blackout curtains for those of you who can't sleep once it is light out like myself - I slept until 9:30! We didn't take advantage of the complimentary bikes that are there for guests, but plan to on the next visit!

Room Tip: River view is great!
