“Some great exhibits”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

This is a good museum that I think could easily be overlooked. They had 2 really good exhibits while we were there at the end of Aug 2012. One was an exhibit of clothing by the designer Ralph Rucci, and the other was a larger exhibit of clothing by the designer Rudi Gernreich. Both were quite amazing, especially since you get to see the clothing up close on the mannequins, and you can really see the work that goes into them. Two very different designers, but both really interesting. The Gernreich exhibit also had a film featuring the designer's work which was good. The SCAD Museum of Art encompasses the old, original Savannah railroad station, so it was interesting to see how they incorporated the old parts into the new building, and created a lovely outdoor space that saved part of the ruins of the old station. This is worth a visit.

“SCADs of cool art...”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

O.K., dumb title - but great modern art. What sets this museum apart from most other museums are the docents! These way-knowledgable students (from the Savannah College of Art/Design) help the art-challenged (i.e. me and my friends) understand what the artist was trying to impart - providing the observers with the background necessary to get the most out of this experience. Sure, Telfair and the Roundhouse Railroad museums are iconic and should not be missed (especially if you're a history buff), but don't miss this experience!!!!

“Great Docents, great historic building...”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

The exhibits change regularly so theres always something new to see. The building is built on the ruins of a train depot continuing SCAD's tradition of saving Savannah's historic properties.

“Off the beaten path, but worth the trip”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed looking through the exhibits on a Saturday morning. The SCAD students were very helpful and knowledgeable about each exhibit. It had a great mixture of fashion, sculpture, and historical documents. It is fairly small and only took us about an hour to get through everything.

It was also a nice surprise that it is part of the Blue Star museum program so as an active duty military family, we got free admission.
