On our visit to Savannah, we took both the 4 hour birding and the Blackwater canoe trips.  They were wonderful and exceeded our expectations.  Diana was very knowledgeable about the birds and took us to lovely spots on Skidaway Island where we saw 48 species.  Karen guided us on a great paddle through the calm, clean, black waters of the Ebenezer creek.  We learned so much from both!  Next time we are in the area we will do more tours with Wilderness Southeast.  If only there were more organizations like this!

The boat ride to Warsaw Island is a reminder of beauty only minutes from Savannah. I discovered ancient Cyprus and Tupelo trees, and important Georgia history in the swamps of Ebenezer. Passionate, devoted naturalists make these trips rich experiences.

I have always enjoyed guided tours and usually have coordinated them as part of enrichment programming for middle school and high school students. This year I wanted to share those same rich experiences with my children! We scheduled an Alligators and Others tour with WiSE and loved it from the very beginning. Ms. Becky was our tour guide and she communicated very well with my six and eight year old boys. They were engaged right away and were fascinated by the environment and how the rangers manage the land to keep the animals safe and healthy. I recommend taking your tour when the weather is mild and there is a light breeze. On our tour date it was about 70 degrees with a light breeze; we weren't too hot and the bugs were not bothersome.

Ours was the Beaches and Borders trip, though we spent most of our time in the borders - salt marsh on Tybee Island, with a brief stop at the beaches there. We got there just before the peak of low tide and got to watch egrets feeding and tiny fiddler crabs skittering among the grasses. Our guide, Becky, was deeply knowledgeable and engaging and not only showed us around the marsh but did a great job of putting it in ecological context. Our tour was 2-4 p.m. and we spent 3/4 of the time in the marsh, with no regrets. Definitely bring a camera and wading shoes. The time of our trip, over Thanksgiving weekend, turned out to be a great time of year to go. Temps were near 70 with no bugs. We strongly recommend this tour to anyone who wants a the larger picture of how the ecology of the Georgia coast works.

From the first email everyone at Wilderness Southeast was incredibly helpful, and our guide, Diana, was awesome. We thoroughly enjoyed a birding tour on Tybee Island that combined sea birds and marsh birds. We saw more than 35 different species! Strolling the quiet beach and marshland early on a sunny morning was a sublime experience. I was deeply glad we booked this tour, which made our trip to Savannah much richer. If you have the time, book one of their nature tours and discover so much more beyond the historic district.
