This must be the best designed city that I have seen in the world. It is a quiet, gracious place where one feels connected to a rich past.

Savannah is our favorite walking city and the size, squares and pastoral elegance of the historic district makes it a must see.

Savannah's historic district is reknown for its mid-nineteenth century charm and its unusual layout with squares that are dispersed throughout the area along with the tree lined esplanades that traverse the city. As city life goes, this district offers the full gambit. Some of the architecture is beautiful, and most of the properties are well maintained; however, this city is still a work in progress with some buildings still in varying states of disrepair. Even though prohibited by law, expect to be regularly accosted by panhandlers with various tales of woe. Walking is the only way to see the district, but be wary after 9PM as many streets simply don't feel safe, and DO NOT walk outside of the historic district at any time. Lots of good restaurants and quaint B&B's. Park your car for your entire stay, as the mixture of horse drawn carriages, tour buses and bicyclists make driving tedious. You can buy parking passes that will allow you to park in metered spots without need to feed the meter. Travel in spring or fall to avoid the oppresive humidity. Not as good as we expected, but definetly worth seeing. Avoid traveling to Savannah at St. Patrick's Day as the city goes crazy with the revelry of the occasion.

Something to see at every turn. Just a pleasure to walk around and visit the old homes and learn some Savannah history.
