Owner description: Savannah's picturesque historic district brings the traditional southern atmosphere to life.

Only real reason to go to Savannah is the historic district. Spent 2 1/2 days there and that is about the right amount of time. Walk, don't take any of the driving or carriage tours. It is a unique and rich city.

Beautiful squares with lovely old colonial houses. Hanging spanish moss gives the squares a slightly spooky atmosphere, especially at night. Easy to get around on trams, horse drawn carriages or just walk. River street has lots of small shops and the steamer terminal, very pretty. The City Market has lots of nice cafes and restaurants. Beautiful city.

Everything in the historic district is within close walking district and there are signs everywhere to tell you about the people, the buildings and the events that took place there. The architecture is beautiful and there are squares on just about every block with benches for those who need to take a break from walking or just want to sit and enjoy the view.

The historic district is something to see. To think that the things that you are seeing were also seen by George and Martha Washington.
