Description: Papillote is a casual French restaurant located in Downtown Savannah. Papillote is a family run business, and we make everything here from scratch daily. Derrick is the head chef and deals with everything savory. His mother, Vilma is the pastry chef and deals with all things sweet. Eat in or take out - very casual and a great atmosphere where you order at the counter and enjoy your meal at any open table you want. We have daily specials, and cater to many different dietary constraints!

We stopped here for lunch one day and enjoyed it very much. This is a very small restaurant. We had to wait to get a table, and then had to share it with others. You order your meal at the counter and then it is delivered to you. Delivery was a little slow, but the food was very good.

We stopped in at Papilotte while sightseeing and shopping in downtown Savannah. We had a very nice chicken, polenta, and arugala salad - tasty, light but enough for lunch, fresh and well-prepared. Nice treat, and a good alternative to more expensive, heavier fare available. Recommended.

We had a mid-week late lunch at Papillote after touring the Savannah historic district. It is 2 blocks from City Market where most of the trolley tours end, so an easy walk. Some reviewers have said that it isn't cheap, but we would argue that for what you get in terms of food, the value is pretty high. It only has 4 or 5 small tables inside, so it is really a takeout place, not a sit-down restaurant. And yes, your order will come on a styrofoam plate with plastic silverware, but that's what a takeout place does.

Let's talk about the food. Mmmmmmm. Two of us had the melted angel (pictured), which was beef brisket with melted pepper jack cheese and roasted shallots over brioche with some baby greens with a takeout serving of oil and balsamic. Search the TA reviews to see how many takeout places have the words "brisket," "brioche," or "shallots" in them. The Parisien sandwich was also very good. We probably should have tried a crepe, but maybe next time. Two of our party had water to drink and it was free, so that is no longer an issue, if it ever was. For four of us, we paid about $50.

A couple of things I don't like: As another reviewer said, when you place your order (again, this is a TAKEOUT place), the server flips the tablet over and it displays your choices for the tip, starting with 15% at the top. Hey, wait a minute! I just placed my order, so how does anyone deserve a tip yet? At the bottom of the list is the option of "No tip," but how many polite people are going to click the "no tip" option with the server who just took the order looking them right in the face? Second quibble: The time it takes for the food to be prepared. Yes, I know that I just made a big deal about roasted shallots and brioche. But we were literally the only customers in the place while we waited at least 15 minutes for our food.

We love Papillote! We tried it for the first time on our last visit, and we had to have it again this time. This go round my husband had the crepe du jour, which was ham, cheese, and a sunny side up egg. He enjoyed it. I had the croque madame. It was very good, but I discovered I'm not a huge fan of sunny side up eggs. We also had a Gateau Breton, which was delicious - it had a subtle sweetness to it that was very refreshing. We wanted to try the croute a the because it sounded lovely, but they were out for the day. Guess that means we will have to go again next time!

We went for lunch and though the food is good, the portions are small. The Parsian Sandwich was open-faced on a small slice of bread with ham, cheese and thinly sliced apple. My husband had chicken in puff pastry. Each was served with lettuce greens and a plastic container of vinegrette. The total with only tap water to drink was $22.00. The food is served on paper plates with plastic utensils. When you pay they use an electronic payment system that automatically suggests amounts to be added for a tip of 15 percent to 20 percent. It's not clear who is receiving the tip as you order at the counter. We will not return.
