“A lot of good info to know”
Reviewed October 6, 2012 via mobile

This museum contained a lot of good information to know about our country and how everything took place! I think it is a great place for kids. Kids will eventually get to where they don't know anything about our heritage if places like this don't stay open.

“Nothing much”
Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

This museum is small, and overly lacking any truly interesting exhibits. It is also rather pricey considering its limited size and appeal.

“Savannah History Museum”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

This museum certainly had a special touch... Good job on the layout and building. Interesting material and a little of everything. It was a great start to the rest of our trip and exploration of the Savannah area!

“Savannah History Museum: A Little Bit of the True South”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

The Savannah History Museum is housed within the former Central of Georgia Railroad passenger shed (inside the Visitors Center on MLK Blvd).

There are more than 10,000 artifacts relating to early Georgia and coastal history at this small museum. The exhibits include weapons dating back to the Revolutionary War, a rare Native American dugout canoe, a fabulous display of women’s hats and 20th century treasures like Johnny Mercer's Oscar and the bench used in the film, Forest Gump, that was filmed in Savannah. The exhibits are simple but nicely done. There is a gift shop within the museum's confines. In my opinion, the Savannah History Museum is worth the look if you have the time and interest.

Right next door is the Battlefield Memorial and the Georgia State Railroad Museum. The Whistle Stop Café is behind the Visitors Center. If you were so inclined, you could make a day of it and visit all those spots and then move on to another location within the city the next day.

“Pleasant way to pass an hour on a rainy afternoon ”
Reviewed August 7, 2012

This local museum presents a slice of Savannah life through the ages...disjointed at times and perhaps a bit uninspiring, but a few little gems too. We enjoyed the short historic overview - which is screened in a 'hidden' side room near the the entrance - which although it was a bit dated it still gave an introduction to the city's fascinating past. The main area of the museum has a number of exhibits, displayed in a sporadic way, but that's all part of its charm. From ancient canoes to turn of the century carriages, American civil war memorabilia to 2nd world war uniforms ...a little bit of this and a little bit of that! Not the most sophisticated of museums, but in some way I quite liked that. A pleasant way to pass an hour on a rainy afternoon!
