“Awesome Experience”
Reviewed November 29, 2013 via mobile

This is a wonderful and educational experience for all. We were totally surprised due to the lack of signs on the roadway and construction on the roadway when my family got to the fort. It is awe inspiring. The two men working at the fort were very friendly and very knowledgeable about the times. The best part is when they shot off the cannon for us, my teenagers really enjoyed it. You are allowed to tour the fort at your own pace which is excellent as well, which gives you plenty of time to look at all the artifacts that have been found. This is a must see for Savannah!

“Must see when in Savannah.”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Really impressed with the site and the people. They fire a 12lb howitzer 2x per day. (11 and 2) Today they had a large school group there and fired th 32lb cannon. Super impressive. The young people they had there giving tours were in costume and were very knowledgable with regards to the site and history.

Your kind words are greatly appreciated. The 32lber we fired is believed to be the oldest gun of its size still fired in the United States. We're glad you got to experience it.

“A well maintained attraction with lots of history”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

We visited Fort Jackson in early November on a lovely sunny day. It's quite an exposed location (naturally) so might be a tough visit in bad weather.
The fort is preserved in an attractive manner and it's worth walking round the walls and taking in the views.
There are good descriptions of the history of the fort and explanations of the composite parts and their uses.
The visitor centre has a good historical display.

“Enjoyable site; Great ship watching”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Old Fort Jackson does a fine job of telling the story of the nation's early attempts at defending the coastline . Very good bookstore, well-informed guides and demonstrators, museum exhibits are somewhat dated but still informative. The site has very well-kept grounds with lots of benches for relaxation and contemplation. It's just a few minutes from downtown Savannah so it's a good place to catch a break. Also, the fort ramparts are probably the best location for ship watching in Savannah. The channel is very narrow and the ships literally tower over you as they pass by.

Thank you for visiting our fort and sharing your reviews with everyone. Our exhibits are scheduled to undergo a complete overhaul within the year. Next time you visit we should have a whole new experience for you. The ships will still be there for you to enjoy though!

“Much better than I expected”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

Well maintained revolution/civil war fort right on the river. The fort was well maintained with a small museum and lots of old cannons. Very informative guide dressed in the confederate gray uniform gave a very interesting talk about the history of the Fort and its role in the revolution and Civil Wars. The guide explained the different cannons and actually shot a civil war model replica. Also fun watching the cargo ship past so close to the fort entering Savannah Harbor.
