I think this was my third time (maybe fourth) staying at the Avia. Every experience has been perfect and outstanding! You can buy a 2-day parking pass from the city for $12, then park in the garage connected to the Avia, or you can pay $20 for valet. I was worried when I heard Hyatt bought the Avia but so far it seems like they are keeping their excellent staff and service, and renovating what was already a great building. Usually when I stay at a hotel it is just a place to sleep, but the Avia is a place to relax and enjoy life. The staff has always been extremely friendly and helpful and our rooms have always been spotless and well stocked. The only possible thing that could be improved in my opinion are the televisions.

Room Tip: The Luxury rooms are well worth the upgrade from the basic room. You get a balcony, bath tub, about double the space, and 2 TV's (maybe more, but that's off the top of my head).

This hotel is within walking distance from the riverfront, shopping on Broughton Street and many other sights. It is right next to Ellis Square, which is a very touristy square complete with a waterpark and travel info center. It is right next to the City Market with many shops, restaurants and bars. Therefore, this square probably has the least character of the Savannah squares. Our room overlooked the square. On the Sat night we were there, we couldn't get to sleep until the party noises died down.

Good things with the hotel are many. The decor of the hotel and the room is very attractive. Front of house staff are very professional. Breakfast quite tasty and staff courteous and quick. Our second day there, they'd to move the breakfast room to a cheerless interior room due to construction.

Now the complaints. What's with the shower with no door? The elevator is quite slow - we were on the 3rd floor and used the stairs a lot. One morning we hung a do not disturb sign on the door. The room was not cleaned when we came back in the afternoon.

We got a note that this hotel is rebranding to an Andaz in Sept. That probably means a lot of construction on the property.

Room Tip: don't face the square if you don't like noise.

I absolutely love this hotel and staff. Yes, there is some construction going on by the lobby, but it did not disrupt anything. I love the style and decor of AVIA and the beds and pillows are so comfy...I feel like I am sleeping on a cloud. We parked our car out front and Valet took care of it from there. The hotel is in a perfect location for shopping and dining. Loved walking around the historic district. Savannah is a favorite of mine and this hotel is too. Love their breakfast, you have to have Clinton make you some shrimp grits...they are amazing. And Ms. V is just a sweetheart. All the staff at this hotel are friendly and helpful.
I'll be back!!

We came down to Savannah for a few days last week and really enjoyed this hotel. The location is perfect to walk around the city and is in close proximity to the City Market, and great shopping on Broughton Street. Our room overlooked the pool which looked really nice for relaxation. The room had a refrigerator, mini bar, nice bathroom and shower, and there was bright colorful art on the walls, the room was very modern and clean.

NOTE: There were many renovations going on at the hotel (August 2012), so when we came into town to find the hotel, the street that the hotel was located on was closed off, but eventually going down one way streets and maneuvering, we found our way to the front entrance. In our room we didn't hear any of the renovations, but it would be a good idea to ask what part of the hotel to stay in to get away from any noise.

The parking is kind of a pain, choice between self-parking which we did at a lot that was not attached to the hotel-in an underground garage, or valet, which we chose not to do.

There was a Starbucks on Broughton, a Five Guys Burger place literally steps away, Lady and Sons (which we did not go to) and pubs within steps, NO grocery store within walking distance, but a CVS a few blocks away on Broughton and spectacular Marc Jacobs store on Broughton. The store owners support each other and are friendly and helpful. Great art supply stores as well. We would definitely stay here again!

Hotel is in perfect location on Ellis Square. Our room overlooked the sprinklers; great view. The room was clean and modern with complimentary bottled water on the nightstands. Nice touch! The staff was very friendly and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and activities. Will definitely stay here again as well as recommend it to anyone going to Savannah.
