“Quiet & stylish acccommodations with very friendly staff”
Reviewed March 31, 2011

The Avia is located next to City Market and near all the Savannah historic attractions. Everything we wanted to see was easily within walking distance. Our suite was luxurious with a large bathroom and sitting area. The bed was very comfortable and, unless guests were in the hall right outside our door, we couldn't hear a thing! The staff was very helpful and friendly. As another traveler suggested, be sure to have the cooked to order Shrimp & Grits for breakfast!

Room Tip: A government/military rate is available

This is the second time I've tried staying at an Avia Hotel and both times have been exceptional. The food in house is great and the service is second to none. Lovely rooms - environmentaly friendly and just very comfortable. Will always try to stay at an Avia when I can.

Room Tip: If there is room they may give you an upgrade.

We booked this hotel last minute and got a great deal. Room was small, but big enough for two. Large comfortable (a bit soft) bed, sette, and large tv. Our room had no opening windows or balcony, but since we were out and about all day, it wasn't a big deal. Loved that the shower head placement was on the inside wall, eliminating the need for the dreaded shower curtain. Lots of extra pillows and an extra cozy blanket for the bed or sitting around. Coffee maker was great too. Outside area with pool was lovely and it was nice to have the fire pit there as well. Cleanliness was good, we did notice a candy wrapper under bed, and a few coins under sette, which could/should have been caught, but not a huge deal. Location was stellar. Right on Ellis square. Perfect to walk to everything. Take advantage of the "dot" bus while visiting, which is free and you can hop on and off steps from the hotel. Turn down was really nice, with bottled water for 2 and some chocolate. The bar area was super cozy and the food was awesome, we ordered the breads and spreads and made it our meal, it was perfect for sharing and enjoying a cocktail. Our server Ricky was super friendly and equally non intrusive. Overall we would stay here again in a heartbeat. We also stayed at the Bohemian Hotel during this visit, and for the price, Avia beats this hotel hands down.

Nit picking cons: We did notice that the music in the park plays until 11:30ish at night, so if you are a really light sleeper you should probably know this. While in the bathroom we noticed that we could hear everything our neighbor was doing in his bathroom. They should get rid of the powdered coffee creamer, and offer the small coffee mate creamers, check in was abrupt and inpersonal at best, but all other conversations at the front desk with others were pleasant and professional. The sensor bar is so yesterday, they should really do away with it.

I love this hotel ... Yes it is pricey but so worth it! Our room was a beautiful two room w/ balcony over looking Ellis Square. Loved it .... Just wished we had seating on the balcony. Clean (ultra clean), comfortable, quiet - amazing. The staff awesome, I never opened a door. Great location walking distance to everything. make sure you try Goose Feathers across the square - great coffee and pastries.

During our mother-daughter trip to Savannah, my teen and I stayed at the Avia. It was the perfect hotel stay. I’ve never slept in such a comfortable bed. The rooms were beautiful and elegant. The hotel was perfectly located between the historic district and River Street. Our stay was quiet and relaxing. The staff was courteous and helpful. The cookies by the elevator were a nice touch. I can't wait to take my husband back.

Stayed in the hotel for a business trip, but will definitely return for personal travel. Avia is a smart, well-kept boutique hotel. The location is superb -- right in the middle of Savannah with easy walking to trolley tours, carriage tours, The Lady & Sons, etc. Very friendly staff and nicely-appointed rooms. I will definitely return!
