We arrived late but the staff was wonderful in helping us get settled and off to a late night reservation for dinner. Location was great for walking around Savannah as well as close to restaurants.

Room was great and common rooms very attractive.

Had delightful breakfasts on the patio.

Spent time with the Innkeeper who was charming.

My mother and I stayed here for 4 nights in April and we couldn't have been more pleased! We will definitely be back. Please take the bad reviews with a grain of salt. Some people can never be happy!

The Ballastone Inn Is a lovely historic house in a tree lined Savannah avenue. The bedrooms and public rooms are individually and tastefully furnished. We stayed for five nights in March and although
we enjoyed our trip to Savannah we would not return to the Ballastone
which is overpriced and overrated

Breakfast has to be ordered the night before as there is only a limited menu, this was unnecesaary and irksome. There are only two fruit juices on offer and when we asked if apple juice could be provided we were told no - at $335 per night this seemed a little unfriendly. You have to choose between granola and the cooked breafast again at these prices why not both? We did not get offered toast until our third morning - why did we not ask you may think but after our experience with the juice we simply thought it wouln't be available.

The afternoon tea was disappointing two plates of small bite sized cakes. The suggestion that the hors d'oeuvres might replace an evening meal is laughable, perfectly tasty but we thought more of a marketting exercise in getting you to buy a glass of wine than any service to guests.

Dont think of leaving your car at the hotel after 11.00am on the day you leave There are many sigs indicating it will be towed away.

We wont be going back

Regarding your 2007 stay: The current owner and management of the Ballastone Inn sincerely apologize that you had a displeasing stay during your 5 night visit in March of 2007.

Regarding breakfast, we do accommodate special diets and will purchase special beverages when requested in advance. We apologize this wasn't offered during your 2007 stay. Toast is a standard serving with all homemade granola and oatmeal dishes. We regret this was missed at your first few breakfasts during your visit in 2007.

Our chef's prepare an outstanding Victorian High Tea and Early Evening hor's doureves daily and these are enjoyed greatly by our guests. We regret we were unable to accommodate you.

Our parking is limited, unfortunately, and our parking lot is used by various tradesmen vehicles during the day, maintaining the inn. We limit this work to the hours of 11am and 3pm so that we are able to accommodate our guests cecking out at 11am and checking in at 3pm. The maintainence of the inn is necessary for our guests enjoyment and comfort.

Nevertheless, we wholeheartedly regret that you had an unpleasant stay and that a less than positive memory is now associated with the inn. Let us assure you that the service you find at the Ballastone Inn today would exceed your expectations. Thank you for your comments, and we apologize for your unpleasant stay in 2007 We welcome the opportunity to serve you again.

The Ballastone Inn is in a great position in the Historic District. The public rooms are comfortable and just like in the pictures but it is very poor value for money.
Breakfast has to be ordered the night before and after coming in late from fabulous restaurants is not ideal. There is a chefs special, a cooked breakfast that is different every day then everything else is on the bar but in very limited quantities. You even have to pre-order drinks. There was a choice of orange or cranberry juice, one of our party of four requested apple juice but apparently that was impossible.
Breakfast is taken at small tables in the public rooms, all very quaint but our party of four seemed to send the system into meltdown. We wanted to sit together at a particular table but were told that Jennifer (the inn keeper) would not allow it. The young girls seemed terrified of Jennifer, whom we never met even after a stay of five nights.
The inn offers tea which the girls happily make whenever you request it.Unforunately it is luke warm as they use water from the coffee urn.We are English and the lack of a hot cup of tea sent us repeatedly to the fabulous Gryphon Tea Room.
The afternoon tea is disappointing, we have never experienced such tiny cakes/brownies. There is one 3 tier cake stand with just three types of tiny bites on it. Afternoon tea it is not. We did not see them top up the cake stand at all.At both breakfast and afternoon tea you certainly could not indulge as we felt it was portion control gone mad and we would be depriving another guest of a tiny morsel.
The evening hors-d'oeuvres consisted of 2 tiny titbits and seemed just a ploy to get you to buy the wine at $8 a glass.
Our rooms were nice, just like in the photos but our bathroom toiletries were not refreshed until we asked. The soap dish and tissue box were chipped (not antiques). In our friends '
room the shower was a trickle. you would expect better for the money we were paying.
At the end of the week we met Jim (one of the inn keepers) as we had breakfast. He asked if we had any "major or minor complaints". We started to tell him about the cold tea to which he told us to complain to Jennifer as all he does is pay the bills!
After reading all the reviews we were expecting far more from this inn that promised much but did not deliver and which seems to us poor value for money. Last year we stayed at The French Quater Inn in Charleston, a superb inn that we would unreservedly recommend , unlike the Ballasone Inn.

There is never enough time to respond to all of our wonderful guests that stay with us. So from my husband, Jim and myself who love our Inn, who are here more than any other Innkeepers in the city, own our own property, my pastry chef who makes the wonderful tea items fresh everyday, my chef who prepares the most wonderful hor d 'oeuvres in the city(often guests skip dinner) , to our very knowledgeable wine consultant who keeps me stocked with the best wines in the country, the best front desk who have total autonomy of the front desk and ensuring the most genuine hospitality in Savannah, my terrific morning servers, we are all in complete agreement, these guests did indeed pick the wrong place to stay.

My girlfriend and I arrived around 4PM on Friday to the most pleasant welcome by Courtney who promply checked us in and met us downstairs to help with luggage and show us to our room. Our room (the Low Country Room) was so charming and had a personality all it's own. I've seen several people on here complain about the Ballastone being loud and we did experience some foot noise, but it just woke us up to get going and exprience all that the Inn and the beautiful city of Savannah has to offer. I didn't hear any noise between midnight and 6AM at all. The Ballastone has a very nice bar/gathering room where beer, wine, and other drinks are always available. The breakfast menu is a bit limited but very good quality. The onsite parking only feet from the back door of the Inn is a definte plus as our last trip to Savannah we had to park in a deck 2 blocks away. The small quiet courtyard is a perfect place for an afternoon drink or a quiet breakfast if temeperature allows. Overall the Inn and the staff exceded all or our expectaions and we will be back for sure! Oh, did I mention I asked my girlfriend to marry me in Forsyth Park? (of course she said yes)

Our stay at the Ballastone was a delight. From the moment we stepped through the door we felt pampered and we couldn't be happier with our stay.

It was our first experience at a bed and breakfast but not our first time in Savannah. We were there to celebrate our 30th anniversary and relax and enjoy historic Savannah. For this the Ballastone is ideally located - it's not more than a 20 minute stroll to anywhere in the Historic district with most locations easily reachable in about 10 minutes. One of the Ballastone's features that made this particularly enjoyable is the on site parking. Once we parked our car we left it alone for the whole weekend and walked around or road a tour trolley wherever we went.

The Ballastone itself is completely charming and every room offers a different take on a long gone era. The rooms are beautifully decorated and quite comfortable. We stayed in the Mary Musgrove room and found it to be very private and perfect for our long weekend get-away. The adjoining courtyard area is perfect for tea or that cigar you just have to have and the weather while we were there was almost perfect for sitting outside.

From the moment we arrived the staff was helpful, knowledgable about the area and very pampering. They made us feel welcome and right at home. This included Frances giving my wife a recipe for cranberry coconut nut bars that were served at one of the afternoon teas. All in all one of the best get-aways we've ever had and worth the money. We can't wait to go back!
