“Third oldest in the U.S.!”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

This Jewish temple looks like a Gothic Cathedral until you see the Stars of David on it. The 3rd oldest temple in the U.S., it was settled by Portuguese Jews seeking freedom from the intolerance of southern Europe. Much like the Temple in Charleston, it is a beautiful edifice and surprising in its location, just off one of Savannah's busiest and most beautiful squares.

“Learned so much!”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

I'm Jewish and love to visit synagogues all over the world. This one was right up there - great history, beautiful old building and even a museum. Knowledgeable and friendly guide.

“Fantastic Architecture And Learning Experience”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

A truly rare and wonderful example of a gothic synagogue. The congregation dates to the 18th century in Savannah and is one of the oldest in the nation. Guided tours by Temple members are informative and fun for members of all faiths and provide a great deal of information on both religious practice and Savannah history. There is a small museum also available for viewing.
