Owner description: The third oldest Jewish congregation and the only neo-gothic Jewish sanctuary in the U. S. We offer tours that include our historic sanctuary and museum with many historic artifacts including two Torahs written in the 1400's (probably the oldest in the U.S.), a Jewish food festival (last Sunday in October), destination weddings and services every Friday, Saturday and holidays. See our website for calendar of events.

A beautiful temple on a beautiful square! The second oldest Jewish synagogue in the US, founded in 1733 (not the building, but the congregation), this is a perfect building to house such a historical "family". A very nice gift shop with helpful staff. Did not attend a service as I am not Jewish but a definite place of worship for visitors who happen to be.

This was a very beautiful temple! The tour was very informative and I learned alot! And the price is right! Just for a donation they show you this very wonderful temple and museum. It takes about 45 minutes and it was wonderful. They also have a small gift shop and they have an elevator for those who can't climb stairs.

I was surprised that it was so unusual for Jewish people to be able to have a place to worship in Savannah, but they were very instrumental in the development of that city and hard workers. The art in the temple was impressive. There were quite a few stairs and I found this difficult. It is worth your time to check this out to find out about another piece of the puzzle that is Savannah.

So beautiful inside but the best part is the warm and welcoming congregants who welcome you on Saturday at their Shabbat services and delicious Oneg Shabbat luncheon afterwards. You should be proud, Mickve Israel congregation. You made us feel welcome and able to share our Jewish faith while away from home! See you again!
