“American history”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

Settlers on the 2nd ship to Savannah were Sephardic Jews exiled from Portugal. The temple is beautiful and the tour docent was excellent. She included how early settlers have been involved in American history; eg Revolution, Civil War, etc. Highly recommend visiting.

“Unique history”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

Mickve Temple is the 3rd oldest synagog in the U. S. With, possibly, the oldest Torah on display and a small museum upstairs with fascinating history, this is a great 1-2 hour stop while strolling the streets of Savannah. The building is unique, as far as temple architecture goes and the history of its congregation originating in Spain is very interesting. Make this one of your stops.

“Insight to Savannah Jewish history”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

My husband and I were recently in Savannah for the first time. One of the best and most interesting attractions in the city was Temple Mickve Israel. Our guide, Arnold, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. In addition to showing us around the beautiful Temple and small museum, he provided colorful detailed history of the Savannah Jewish community and how it impacted Savannah history. The tour is worthwhile for Jewish and non-Jewish visitors alike.
