“Drunks, Tourist Traps, Nice View ”
Reviewed October 21, 2013 via mobile

River Street at night is crowded and one must dodge insanely drunk people constantly. There are no public restrooms (this makes no sense). So, you either have to be an a bar or eating at a restaurant to use a restroom. During the day, the street was crowded and one must drunk people, strollers, toddlers, and the elderly. Roughly 7 out of every 10 shops had the same crap in them at different prices. One ornament ranged from $5.95 to $11.99 and was seen in every store. So, I would check all of the stores first before purchasing. I found a picture frame on sale in one store for $4.99 that averaged $9.99+ in other stores. However, majority of the stuff is just tourist trap crap. There are very few unique stores. One candy store was charging $3+ each for small candies. Some stores had outrageous prices, basically a tourist trap. Street peddlers were out and about. Gimmicks, free this if you try that, etc all about. It blows my mind that the city doesn't have public restroom facilities at places like this.

“Seeped in History!!”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

You can just feel the history with the old cobbles streets and old buildings. There are several access points from the city level behind the River area. The beautiful old buildings now house a variety of accomodations, shops, eating places and markets. The old is well preserved and has an air of visitors excitement.

“Take A Stroll Down River Street”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Nice place to watch the ships come in, shop and eat. At night the atmosphere is a little different than during the day. All the bars fill up, street performers abound, and it becomes more of a party atmosphere. Good at night for the young adult crowd, but better of the day for families and older folks.

“Central to the Savannah experience”
Reviewed October 19, 2013

Much like Bourbon Street in New Orleans, or 7th Avenue in Ybor City, River Street is the bar and restaurant district in Savannah. There are lots of good choices here (and plenty of lousy ones). It's busy and crowded, can be smelly and expensive. It is, however, a fun-filled way to spend a day or a few hours. No trip to Savannah would be complete without seeing this district.
