We were bothered by Mosquitos during the day and a lot of bees in the grass. The trail marked at intersections. I wasn't very impressed with the setup. The staff was great, the gift shop and the few animals inside the gifts how area were cool. They have alligators, cougars, wolf, animal petting zoo..and a few other things, not an all day affair by any means.a few hours maybe.

$19 for a family of five, and we were there nearly 3 hours. The trails were well kept and shaded. Along with the cool animals, the kids had fun catching lizards and feeding turtles. Bring a water bottle along.

The place was wonderful! I thought it was great that it is affiliated with the school system. There were kids donating their time and helping to maintain the area when we wrre there. There were places to stop and relax along the way. We intwnd on buying a board, which the funds go back unto the center to help maintain it.

It is a pretty place. The employees were amazing and very nice!!!!!! The animals are fine to see. The path is pretty easy to walk if there is no rain. It rained the day I went and it was difficult to walk around and had to be picked up by car by the employees. DO NOT USE YOUR STROLLER IF YOU GO WITH A CHILD, RENT ONE OF THEIRS.... Use comfortable shoes.

Just went here today, and wasn't expecting too much (thought it would be smaller). Wow, were we wrong! Animals are great, very natural habitats (yes this means you can't always see the animals, like in nature), lots of animals on the paths like the thousands of fiddler crabs in the salt marshes, oysters on the banks, Fived lined skinks, Anoles, and Gopher Tortoises!

Be sure to ask about the history of the building. Started out as a retirement center with the smaller building being housing for nurses and staff due to the lack of a bridge, they would work x days on and x days off. After this venture went belly up, the government turned it into a Syphilis Ward for women and children. At the advent of penicillin the building was the start of the CDC. They experimented with diseases, treatments, biological and chemical warfare (DDT). Upon relocating the government gave it to the Chatham County School District, who own it to this day. All the entrance fees, and sales of the gift shop are the only income for this animal rescue and do not get reallocated to the school district.
