Oatland Island Wildlife Center was one of our favorite stops during our Savannah trip. The cost was only $5/adult and well worth every penny. Upon arriving, we were given a map that showed the trail and all of the different animals and exhibits around the center. Our favorites were the wolves and the bobcats (these were some of the more active animals while we were there) and we also enjoyed the birds of prey. I can't say enough good things about the Center's trail. Parts of it wind through wooded areas, and other parts of it turn into boardwalks that go through marshland or ramp slightly up to the exhibit areas. I highly suggest bringing water and bug spray (the bugs weren't out quite yet while we were there, but I imagine that they are relentless). If you have young children, it might be good to narrow down which animals you would like to see and hit those first, as the entire trail is a good bit of walking. The Center also has a gift shop in the main building (water, sodas, ice cream bars, and souvenirs) and it makes a nice little stop on the way out.

Spent President's Day with my 8 year old granddaughter because it is a school holiday. Walking the beautiful wooded trails takes several hours because of the stops to see Gray Wolf, Red Fox, Bobcat, Cougar, bald eagles, hawks... she even remarked (uncharacteristically to say much of anything!) "I'm having a pretty good day so far!" I took it as the highest compliment and indication she really really liked it! We will go back, she won't let me forget we said we would. Todays temps were in the mid 50s, clear blue skies, perfect day for strolling through the woods and along the marsh. The animals look very well fed. Wear proper walking shoes as the trip around takes about two hours of walking, some is wood decking but most is pine needle trails...flip flops are not appropriate, imho. It is within 15 minutes of downtown Savannah. Visiting Oatland Island really puts you in the "low country". beautiful and informative

See the native animals of the Georgia Coast, many of which no longer exist freely in our ecosystem. They are found at oatland along with old settlers cabins and teaching facilities. Yearly festivals to show pioneer life along the coast and colonies.

This is a great place to take a family. There is a good variety of animals that you can see upclose. No crowds and you take as much time as you want to walk through.
