The Green-Meldrim House was one of the highlights of our Savannah trip! Much better than anticipated! The architecture and furnishings were beautiful, the guides knowledgeable. The antiques, the history, and the stories were just wonderful. Highly recommend!!

My wife and I plus another couple toured the Green-Meldrim House in early March 2014, A beautiful, historic house in Savannah. Unfortunately, the quality of dur tour varied from good to less than good as the docent - or tour guide - changed as our group moved from one floor to the next. As a student of the Civil War I, personally, was a bit disappointed by the extent to which the marketing of the house focused so much on the fact that General W.T. Sherman had (on invitation) uses it as a headquarters after the fall of Savannah (for about 6 weeks), while the tour lacked a corresponding focus. Nevertheless, as is true of so much of Savannah, the Green-Meldrim House is a grand dame to be honored for her history and beauty. The tour is not handicapped-accessible.

This is worth doing. The house has been in continuous use since it was built; the church next door now owns it and hosts events in it. I had two guides/docents, and both were very knowledgeable. The rooms and furnishings are impressive. After a miserable experience at the Sorrel-Weed house nearby, it was nice to warm up and hear about the home's history and General Sherman's stay.

A wonderful house and tour; the inside is absolutely gorgeous. Of course, to us Southerners, we do have to get past that this is where Sherman set up his headquarters in Savannah, but the house is great inside and worth the time. The hours are erratic, but take the time to see this true jewel of architecture and design, it is worth it.

This home doesn't have daily tours so plan ahead! You definitely want to make sure to find a day that fits into your schedule. The tour guides are friendly and knowledgeable. It's a beautiful and historic home. It is used as the parish house for St. John's. It is know as "Sherman's Headquarter's" but it's so much more than that. No photography allowed inside the home. Definitely don't miss this!
