“Tombstones hard to read, but still interesting”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Free. Many of the tombstones are difficult or impossible to read, but this place is still worthwhile. A tour we took earlier told us that after the Civil War, the union soldiers went into this cemetery and removed many of the head stones or destroyed them. Since no one knew where to replace them, they have them preserved along a brick wall. Very sad and moving to see.

“A nice walk through history”
Reviewed January 24, 2013

As with any place in Savannah, the more you can learn about it before you visit the more enjoyable the experience will be.The first time we visited we just walked through. When we came the second time we had researched the history of the cemetery and saw it with new eyes and a greater appreciation.

“Stroll and feel the history”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Reading the epitaphs is incredible. Read things such as the lady that died after giving birth to her 15th child at only 41 years of age. Notice the headstones against the far wall that the location of the grave is unknown due to the damage done by Shermans troops.

“Good History”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

How does one rate a cemetery... Hmmm, well it offered great scenery but what was most important was the history on the tombstones as well as the signs put up.

I'd say it is a must-see for history buffs and for those who appreciate the past.
