“Great accomodations near Falling Water”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

Walking into the Inn feels like walking back in time. The Arts & Crafts style lobby with huge stone fireplaces and original Stickley furniture is beautiful. We relaxed while having a drink on the very large deck and then went for a swim. The Inn's pool is huge, not too warm, and has a wall of windows that look down over the valley. The bed was super comfortable and breakfast in the dining room was hot and filling. The Inn is only about 10 miles from Falling Water, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's masterpieces. The only thing that might be considered a negative is that there is no elevator in the Inn and the many stairways and halls can be a little confusing.

My husband and I were planning on staying at the Inn during our Rotary group's district conference, which was being held there, and making the hotel a great deal of money in one weekend. We booked our room a month ahead of time for the discount rate for our group. The Wednesday before we were to stay overnight, our babysitter had to cancel, and we were unable to find a replacement with such short notice. I called the hotel to cancel our reservation and was told that we would be charged the rate for one nights stay because we hadn't called by 4pm the day before. Apparently, they have a 72 hour cancellation policy and refused to waive the fee. In fact, they immediately processed our credit card before my husband got off the phone for the regular rate of 1 night's stay and not the reduced group rate. Tacky Summit Inn- very tacky. We will be sure to make this situation known to the entire Rotary district consisting of more than 40 clubs, and 1000s of members. Great way to exhibit your customer service- I'm sure everyone will be very impressed. HA!

Room Tip: Warning! If you do choose to stay here, don't get sick or have an emergency less than 72 hours b...

This hotel is great for 1985, the last time it was likely remodeled. The food was pretty good, the location is great. But the views aren't as good as you'd hope. Being right on a main highway with old windows means your can hear all the noise. For $200 a night I would hope for a lot more than a location. The best part about this hotel is that you are near so much today, so do yourself a favor and get out of this old, underwhelming hotel.

Room Tip: "View Rooms" do have a view, they also have all of the noise from the highway so keep that...

I can not begin to say enough about the Summit Inn. We had our wedding reception there in addition to staying at the Inn. The service, food and staff all excellent and the location is stunning especially in October. All of our guests many of whom were unfamiliar with the area and The Summit Inn have since returned to eat and just to stay in this special place. If you are looking for a place to stay to explore the Laurel Highlands this is a great spot. Eat at Mae's Restaurant and get the crab cakes.

We stayed here for three nights as a base for touring Falling Water and Kentuck Knob, ft. Necessity and other sites in the area. Mae's dining room has a nice menu and food is nicely presented and very tasty. Lobby is rustic and warm feeling. If you need help with luggage you have to ask for it, there are no elevators so if steps are a problem request a room on the first floor. There is no coffee in room, but is available in the lobby. The rooms are clean, bright and ours had a spectacular view. The bathroom was clean with plenty of linens, but very small with no vanity or table to put anything.

Room Tip: Request a room on the front of the hotel. Great views from there. If walking up stairs are a probl...

The rooms are cute and cozy. I felt at home, and very safe. The old fashion vibe is great, so different than any other place I've stayed...and I've been to many places. It was very clean and quiet. Not to mention the view! I love everything about this hotel. I feel like it's my home in PA. Everyone who works there goes out of their way to help and make you feel welcome. I stayed for $80 a night and would do it all over again. My trip to the Summit in is forever a wonderful memory, and it won't be my last!

One of our friends was having their wedding at the Summit Inn and we reserved a room for the night so we wouldn't have to drive home.
Pros: The reception hall was beautiful, the staff was extremely attentive, the food was excellent. The lobby area had rustic charm and was decorated very nice. Our room was clean. The views are awesome.
Cons: The place is historic (aka old). Windows are drafty, and the the whole lower floor with the gameroom and pool was definitely on the cooler side. This place is closed over the winter so I'm not suprised that it didn't handle the cold weather weekend very well. The rooms walls are very thin. We could hear people speaking in the hallway very clearly as well as music from the bar area. The room was also very small and very $$$ for what you got. Parking is also slim if there is an event going on.
We would definitely attend another wedding here as it was very well done, but would not stay here again.

Room Tip: I imagine a room farther away from the lobby would be quieter.
