“Busy little cafe with outdoor seating out back”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

Good coffee, tempting assortment of interesting varieties of muffins, sandwiches, soups and quiche. The lemon tarragon chicken melt and blackberry granola muffin were wonderful. Many staff members to keep up with the Saturday morning crowd.

“$2 ice coffee on a triple digit day”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

I popped in here today to take advantage of their inexpensive ice coffee. Definitely an independent coffee shop with a local feel. Nice sitting area in the front, grubby counter & food service area in the back. The cashier and "barista" was not too friendly but not rude either. She answered all of my questions but seemed to be engaged in a side conversation with another customer. A very different experience from Spro, which is down the street. Much less costly, much less snobby, much more homely.

“I love independent coffee shops, but...”
Reviewed January 8, 2012

This joint is horrible! My family and I stopped by on a mild January Sunday afternoon after a walk down to Hampden. The young girl serving at the counter was surly and rude to customers. We purchased a chocolate croissant which looked delicious sitting on the counter, but it might have been the worst pastry I have ever eaten. It was dried up and stale and it didn't help that the young lady microwaved it in an archaic Amana microwave for minutes. Hot, crunchy, chewy, cold, GROSS! I think I could have had something from 7-11 that was fresher. The board said they had a dark roast, but they did not have it brewed. The sales girl assured us that the bronco brew they were serving was a dark roast, but it just tasted like dirt. I want to love independent coffee shops, especially since my family has one in Hoboken, NJ, but I understand why Starbucks is so successful with junk like this.

“Common Grounds”
Reviewed July 26, 2010

Sitting on The Avenue in Hampden is this little coffee shop, that does it right. This is no Starbucks. Many of the eclectic locals of Hampden are always starting their day off here. The coffee is fresh, brewed, and ready to go. (They use Cafe Pronto Brand Coffee out of Annapolis). They have iced coffee down to a science , flavorful and not bitter. The pastries and scones are always tender and moist. If you come with a real hunger then try one of their breakfast or deli sandwiches the portions are large and I tend to split one with a friend. For these hot days we have been having if you are a coffee drinker but need a cooler option, the blended coffee drinks are always refreshing.

A Hamden staple. Tasty chicken curry, specialty sandwiches, huge cookies, dangerous muffins and fabulous coffee.
