I and my husband arrived Monday night and I was not pleased with some things. I awoke and started to write a so-so review, when I stopped and thought "I should let my concerns be known first" and so I proceeded to call the front desk and spoke with a Paula (later to find out a manager) and she rectified everything. After going through deaths literally every birthday for the last three years, this was the first one I was able to get away and it was perfect. The hotel staff to include the valet personnel were very hospitable and the food was outstanding. Actually, I felt like I had a family here. I would recommend this hotel just on customer service alone, an attribute rarely seen these days.
This past March (2013), we had our wedding on the top floor of this hotel. The price for the venue was definitely worth it since we had an amazing view of the entire city of Baltimore. During the months leading up to the wedding, the staff were extremely helpful in accommodating any needs that arose. We were basically able to customize our menu from what the hotel's restaurant had and we could arrange the venue any way we wanted.
I was informed that the night before the wedding, there was no one using the venue, so if we wanted, we could go to the venue the night before to set up (which we definitely did!). The day after the wedding there was no one using the venue again so we didn't have to clean up the venue and pack all of the decorations until the following morning. This allowed us to go straight from the wedding out with our friends to celebrate more.
The food was AMAZING. We did the seated dinner with served appetizers beforehand. I did not get the chance to have any of the appetizers while they were being served but the staff set aside a plate for us after the ceremony. The shrimp appetizer was beyond amazing. We then had the seared pork and chicken caprese as the main entrees. There was not a single complaint about the food. Afterwards, the hotel allowed us to choose two cakes to serve as well as putting 4 sauces at each table to be drizzled on the cakes as people pleased. The food is a bit pricey and you cannot bring in your own food or alcohol. However, having everything in one place and not having to worry about a caterer making it to the venue on time was a benefit.
We only had 54 people at the wedding, which was the perfect amount for a venue of this size. I wouldn't recommend this venue for weddings consisting of over 100 people. There are two rooms to choose from. The first is a smaller room which can be used as a cocktail hour. The second room is larger and is where the dining tables are set up as well as a little gazebo for dancing.
The staff at our wedding were so helpful. The bar tender was extremely friendly and was willing to go out of his way to get other alcohols if they were requested by guests and in stock. The sweetheart table had its own waiter and he was so friendly. He also used to work in a boutique and knew a lot about wedding dresses which greatly helped when it was time to bustle up my dress.
This hotel is located right across the street from a church for those that would like to have the ceremony at a church and use the hotel as the reception area. Parking was slightly expensive at the hotel ($30 for overnight using their valet). At the end of the block there is a parking lot that is only $10 but your car has to be out by a certain time the next morning and no one watches the vehicles overnight. Power Plant Live (a club area) was also about a 10 minute taxi ride away which was helpful during the after party.
That night, we stayed in a room at the Peabody. The hotel used to be an apartment building that was converted into a hotel. Therefore, the hotel is a bit old but it definitely has character. The main lobby has a beautiful chandelier and spiral staircase that can be used for pictures. The elevators were a bit small but got the job done. The rooms were nice and clean. Nothing spectacular but it worked for our needs.
To sum it up: food=amazingly delicious, staff=very friendly and helpful, venue=the price is worth it to not have to worry about anything.
My only complaint would be to get the windows power cleaned so that the pictures come out a little clearer. Besides that, definitely use this hotel for your wedding!!
The individual staff members from the bellpesons to the front desk to the food service to the made service where great. However the number of staff to handle the guests attendng one of the two weddings, our large group and others thee for fuctions was not sufficent. The resturant has great food but to few wait staff so service is very slow. Not enought staff at front desk at night to handle situations that occur at night. Ie wrong sheets being placed on bed (a rwin bed sheet on a king bed) etc. No one overseeiing the meal service etc at our varios meetings and dinnr bruch and lunch functions. This caused many probems.
