“It is convenient to the stadium"”
Reviewed June 23, 2011

We just stayed in this property and being part owners of an HIE hotel we know the drill. I read below a review saying it wasn't close to the stadium -- it is. It's three blocks. We were there for a U2 concert and my family (incuding two kids 9 & 12) walked to M&T Bank Stadium in a matter of minutes. It is a bit further to Camden Yards (5 more minutes) and probably a 25 minute walk total to the Inner Harbor. That said, it's not a great part of town, but it's a nice property and it is close to the stadiums. The rooms are clean and nice and the staff is very helpful -- in fact, I just made arrangments with the head of housekeeping to return a watch we left behind. They have parking and a pool. There is no place to eat nearby, but they do run a shuttle to the Inner Harbor. We walked up to Camden Yards, caught a cab to the Inner Harbor, caught another cab back to the stadium for the concert and then walked back to the HIE after the show, no stress. As the saying goes, it is what it is -- It's a nice HIE and it's very convenient to the stadium. If you want the Inner Harbor, stay there, but if you want easy access to either stadium at the HIExpress pricepoint, this is a good place to stay.

Ok I will be honest…I ran from this hotel. I thought it would be in walking distance of the stadiums. It was not. I thought it would be close to the inner harbor. It was not. I thought it would be in a good location. It was not.
Be aware this hotel is well away from the tourist area. It is near the Greyhound bus station. When we pulled in there were lots of unsavory folks wandering around. I just did not feel safe putting my family in the hotel or leaving my car outside. As I missed the cut off I had to pay for the night even though I never stayed. I am a really frugal (read cheap) guy so for me to give $$ it had to be bad. Guess I was a chicken as well as cheap!

This appears to be an older property near the baseball stadium. I was really prepared for a dingy room and mediocre service. Neither was the case. Although the hotel is shows its age, the rooms and every aspect of the hotel were extremely clean. The staff was superb - of our 10 days on the road thus far, they were the friendliest most outgoing of all.

Good internet. Typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast.

The only downside to the hotel is the 10.00 per night fee to park a car.

The rooms were alright and the staff was very helpful. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was the location to the stadiums. The hotel description makes it seem like you can walk to the stadiums. You could if it wasn't for the highway bridge that doesn't have sidewalks. In other words, you can't walk to the stadiums or the Inner Harbor from this hotel. The hotel shuttle will take you to the stadiums and Inner Harbor. It's convenient but have you ever used the Disney World shuttles? If so, you have somewhat of an understanding of the shuttle experience--the leaving on their schedule, the waiting, being jammed in, etc. It does beat driving but I really wanted to walk. There are many other hotels in the area where you can truly walk to the stadiums and the Inner Harbor.

We arrived earlier than check-in time so our room wasn't quite ready. However, they offered a room that was locked for us to put our belongings that we didn't want to leave in our vehicle. This allowed us to get our day started earlier, which was great! We rode the shuttle to the Inner Harbor. This is a great ammenity as parking at the Harbor is more than just a little difficult. Everything was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The girls at the desk even looked up some tourist info for us. The breakfast in the morning offered a good variety of both hot and cold items, everything was good. We hope to stay at this hotel again next time we are in the area. Thanks for a great stay!

We were in town for the weekend to participate in a competition being held at the convention center. It would require several trips back and forth between the hotel and convention center. We had a situation in our group that necessitated reliable transportation because long distance walks were not possible. We made two phone calls directly to the property to make certain that we had a CLEAR understanding of the shuttle service before we booked. Upon arrival - we learned that what we were told was not correct - and in fact - were told that THEY would never have give us THOSE details - it must have been a rep from corporate that gave us the wrong information. Upon check in - we were told that the shuttle only runs once each hour - and only the first 13 people that sign up can get on it. When we asked if we could have a cab called - we were told "Oh Friday - it takes at least a half of an hour to get a cab over here". We were also told that the shuttle would NOT be available for from 10 - 1 on Saturday, because they would only be taking 'cruise' people to their port during that time.

We were given a card with a number to call for pickup when we went out on Friday night. We we called for pickup, we were told - the shuttle only makes 2 stops - one at the convention center (at a specified corner) and one at the aquarium. The website and corporate BOTH say that the shuttle takes you anyplace in a 3 mile radius inside of the city. Needing a ride - we agreed to meet the shuttle at the convention center and were told ...."Start waiting at 8 o'clock - he'll be there eventually". When it arrived - the only way that our party of 6 would fit - is if we 'stacked' people. Within another block - he stopped again to pick up 2 more folks. The driver said - don't worry - I am getting you all in there! I believe that we ended up with at least 16 people in back of the shuttle van - children stacked on parents.

There is NOTHING to do around this property. If you would like to pop out to grab a bite to eat - there is nothing here. Before making reservations were told that if you had to walk to the convention center - it would be about 20 minutes. Absolutely no way - nor would you want to. There are desserted lots - and underpasses that you would have to walk past and thru -

They did offer (eventually) to 'try and have transportation available there on Saturday during the otherwise unavailable hours....but they could not guarantee it". Not what we needed.

Our exit was not lovely - but we did not stay at the property. With assistance from the Priority Club (NOT the front desk staff) - we moved to the Holiday Inn, Inner Harbor (which was very lovely).

The room at this property was not above average - and the view that we had of the highway was not the best. Trains could be heard in the short time that we spent in the room. The bathroom was TINY. The property did not look new in any way.

So - if you are there to attend a game and need only to walk to the stadium - book today! If you need reliable transportation to the convention center (or anywhere else) and you were planning to use THIS hotel's shuttle service - think again. We had never been in Baltimore before - and chose this hotel because the advertised shuttle service APPEARED to meet our needs - it did not. There is nothing around this property - so getting into the Inner Harbor area was a must.
