Saw an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives, the week before a business trip to Baltimore. Chaps Pit Beef was on the show and I had to give it a try. I ordered the "Triple D" which was a sandwich of beef, corned beef and sausage. I asked for a recommendation and was told to try it with the house bbq sauce and tiger sauce, which is mayo and horseradish. It was delicious and plenty of lunch for 8 bucks.

This place was a true gem. We saw it on one of those food shows and figured when in Baltimore, we would try it. The neighborhood screams lock your doors but the restaurant is still worth it...its just a little joint off the highway, a line out the door tells you it might be good....Their food is indescribable...we got Ravens and Richwiches...both were fully ravable....and the Tiger Sauce is a must try on them....This clearly is the best sandwich out there, and comparable in price to any Philly cheesesteak joint...plan to spend 9-10 bucks on your sandwich but know...its worth it!

We decided to try Chaps after reading TA reviews and seeing DDD on the Food Network. We wanted a place for lunch that the locals frequented. This place was great. Although located in an area that's not too great, it's worth the visit. The pit beef was excellent. The person taking the orders was friendly and patient and so welcoming. There are so many items on the menu that it is difficult to choose what to order. She made that decision so much easier. The food was great! The green beans were delicious! The sauce for sandwiches, available on the condiment bar, that was made with horseradish and mayo was very good. This place is not fancy. Many blue collar workers coming and going, as well as out-of-towners like ourselves. Seating is limited. But, the order line moved quickly. Plenty of people were coming and going the entire time we were there. The portions were large. We're really glad that we decided to check this place out. When we return to the area, we'll be sure to stop in again for some great food!

After hearing so much about the best pit beef in the city, we felt compelled to try this place out. The beef was extremely tender with a nice char on the outside to give it a smoky flavor. The sandwiches definitely felt like they were missing something, however. There weren't really any other flavors from the sandwich besides the meatiness of the beef, even with the different sauces (it definitely tasted like wasn't even salt or anything on the meat). We are willing to give it another try the next time we are in town, and hopefully one of the other sandwich combinations will have a bit more flavor. As a side note, the restaurant is quite small, and sits in the parking lot of a strip club (also across the street from an adult video store). It's not in the greatest area, and the sandwiches were good but not great in our opinion. We would consider trying it again if we are nearby.

I have always heard how good the Beef sandwiches were at this place but never stopped in. Today we did on the way out of the city. My sandwich was excellent. My wife got a Turkey Ruben and she loved it. Now I want to go back and try the ribs. wish I lived closer.
