The Ambassador Dining Room is mysteriously hidden away behind the Ambassador Apartment Building in Baltimore's University Parkway area. You would never find it if you did not know it was there. The entrance is on a side street, on a side entrance to the building that requires you to enter the secret code (helpfully displayed on the building's intercom system), walk up some stairs, walk through the lobby and up some stairs to the back. The restaurant itself is a charmingly low-lit combination between the Oxford dining hall and a British Raj's personal quarters. There is a lovely garden in the back. The food is pretty good - I would give it a "good" rating rather than a "very good" or "fair." I had the chicken tikka masala, which I asked for spicy, and which, alas was not, but was still tasty. The chicken was tender. Service was fine - very nice and well-paced. The prices are fair for a nicer restaurant in a large city.

This resteraunt is not worth your time. The dining room was very cozy and nice but it did not compensate for the awful food. The food was overpriced and not very tasty. I had the chicken tikka masala and the chicken was tough with very little sauce.

My family loves Indian food but it is difficult to find high quality restaurants. This restaurant in an older apartment building near Johns Hopkins University is one of the best in the US. On a snowy March evening the room was filled with the warm glow of candles plus fireplaces were lit at each end. The tandoori platter featured a large prawn, lamb and chicken. The naan with dried apricots and almonds was delicious. An excellent wine selection was another bonus.

The Ambassador has been on of my favs for years now...I love Indian food anyway, but the Ambassador has two things other places don't have. The interior is just so amazingly beautiful...when the weather is nice and you can sit out on the patio, with the large fountain tinkling away just down the walk...you can imagine you're somewhere exotic, far away. And the food is definitely a cut above other Indian places...more refined with lovely nuances. Nice wine list, friendly service and fireplaces going in the winter make this place special. And they have an amazing Sunday Indian brunch. More expensive than other Indian restaurants, true...but worth it.

This is the best Indian food in Baltimore. My entire family loves it, including kids 8 and 10 years old. The food is great and in the nice weather you can sit out on the patio. It is also nice in the winter with the candle light and 2 fireplaces. The service is reasonable and the people are nice. This is the resturant we go to for all of our special occasions.
