I had a delicious crab cake accompanied by apple/fennel coleslaw; my daughter had a yummy hummus wrap with lovely butternut squash soup. It was a lovely place to sit and linger before we went through the museum. A bit high but not too bad for a special meal. Desserts were delicious too and service was very good.

Tuesdays at Gertrude's is known as Gertie's, probably because it's cheaper and just as wonderful as usual. The 12$ specials are unbelievable, the wines at 20$ cannot be matched. Get there on Tuesday and really get a deal, the whole deal, the real deal. And enjoy with a fine crowd or art lovers and sophisticates.

I am not a connoisseur of southern cooking by any rate, but the catfish Gertrude's makes is the best I have ever tasted! Crunchy on the outside, and moist on the inside. The collard greens that come with it aren't overdone or mixed in with too many things-- they are just right. Pairing that with cheesy grits and a sweet potato biscuit makes heaven in your mouth!
Then for dessert-- that Gertrude's candy bar! WOW!!! If you like Ferrero Rocher, you will love this!
Cocktail: They are a tad stingy with the alcohol in the cocktails...I would stick to wine:-)

Many people go to the BMA to see the Cone Collection and it really is incredible. But, if you have time, eat at Gertrude's. Really creative, well-prepared food (though the bread basket is not worth the calories). For those of us who love Eggs Benedict but don't eat pork, imagine the pleasure of Gertrude's preparation with fried green tomatoes instead of any kind of meat. And you know how the hash browns are always an afterthought? Not here. Delicious. Crisp. Terrific seasoning. What else? House-made sodas. Definitely worth-it desserts. If you're lucky, you'll have a beautiful day and can sit outside where you can see sculpture and a lovely pool. Just one caution: make a reservation.

The restaurant is at the Balt. Art Museum, so you get to see a wonderful museum and have a terrific meal. A bit pricey but absolutely excellent food and service. Weather permitting, ask to sit outside.
