We went to buffet lunch on Saturday prior to going to the Walters. We liked the Akbar in Columbia, so we tried this one. The restaurant is downstairs from street level and you immediately feel like you are in a basement. The carpets, furnishing and tables are all in need or replacement. What once was elegant is now just shabby. All that would be overlooked if the food met expectations, which it did not. The fish was probably "past date" and the spinach, which was my favorite in Columbia, was bitter and lacking the cheese which made the dish. The tandoor chicken was good, however, with lots of smokey taste. We will not return. Not worth the buffet price.

Recently visited Akbar Restaurant during a recent convention weekend. I ordered the mixed grill, which is a dish I frequently order in other restaurants. The portions were generous - and really, really good. My daughter ordered Chicken Korma, again a dish we order frequently, It was excellent. We had our favorite, Rasmalai (sp) for desert. This is a dish we use to judge how good a restaurant is and they passed with flying colors - it was excellent. The service was very good and the prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. We did not have a car during this trip and it was very easy to get to Akbar Restaurant using the Purple Route on the Charm City Circulator.

This is where I first tried Indian food, back in 1987. The fact that the restaurant is still around shows how good it is. It's in a nice central location and has food for all tastes, including the wimp like me who can't eat spicy food.

Akbar is one of the two Indian restaurants we frequent when we are in Baltimore. We have found the food to be excellent quality and the service always cordial.
