“Food - lovely, bartender & owner - not so much”
Reviewed August 17, 2014

Filet mignon, mussels, mahi mahi - all done so well. Vegetables were crisp, filet was cooked exactly as requested. It was tender and juicy. The crab hash with the mahi mahi was a tasty addition to a well-prepared fish (good balance of cubed potatoes and sizable crab pieces).

The only downside was the bar tender (who was just filling in) and owner. We ate a a nearby restaurant the night before, and the staff there were a cut above -- pleasant and interesting. It's not that they were unpleasant; rather, they just seemed to be bothered by our attempts to make conversation. Note to self: don't bother trying to engage them.

Outside seating was quaint, and a smaller inside seating area was available.

We did not engage the other staff, so I cannot speak to their personalities or performance.

Still, all things considered, the food was so good I'd have to return and try the other items on the menu.

“Delicious food & Excellent service”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

We ate here just last night and found the food wonderful and the service attentive and friendly. This is not your typical tavern - the whole experience is more fine dining than tavern although the environment is not. The dining areas are tucked here and there in an old building so the effect is cozy and intimate, with a lot of personality. The food was very well done - the caesar salad was one of the best we've ever had with just the right amount of anchovy and lemon juice. The crab cake was unbelievable - no filler and all you tasted was the best crab you've ever eaten. No herbs or seasoning were prominent as everything went to bring out the crab flavor. I had the whole broiled fish (bronzini) which came with the most sublime sauce ever created. My husband got the roasted cornish game hen which was delicious and came with a creative and fabulous gruyere and leek bread pudding. Other dishes served at the table were excellent, although the esgargots and mussels could have used a little salt. Often you can tell if the staff is paying attention to details when the coffee is served b/c so often, even after a wonderful meal, the coffee is awful. Here the coffee was excellent and refills were quickly offered. The food is more expensive than what you'd expect from a place that calls itself a tavern, but in actuality it is a fine dining experience in a casual and homey environment. All in all a fantastic experience for all of us.

“One of the best”
Reviewed May 23, 2014 via mobile

Just had dinner here and it was great. Small restaurant off the beaten track. Seafood pasta was delicious...mussels were not hot, but that was minor. All enjoyed the entrees and all enjoyed them. The brownie sundae was just perfect. Obviously we enjoyed it.

“Old school looks with upscale eats”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Henningers has been around a while but hasn'tmsised a beat. It has great old Baltimore prints on the wall and definitely wasn't decorated by a designer. But the food is excellent New American. Our best dish at our most recent visit was a Cioppino-type seafood dish with an abudance of clams, shrimp and other excellent seafood. Everything we have had there is great. I like the casual appearance of the place. Upscale food in a casual setting is the best!

“Hearty, well-prepared appetizers and entrees”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

We had a wonderful dinner last night at Henninger's. Eclectic decor, with many photos and posters and art work - a mini-Haussner's for the Fells Point crowd. Don't miss the fried oyster appetizer with the pernod and fennel. Wakes up your taste buds. Also enjoyed the Texas BBQ shrimp. We all picked pork chops on the servers recommendation - and they did not disappoint. Great mashed potatoes too. Excellent service. And you could hear each other talking! Keep this on your list of Baltimore faves.
