These are the adjectives I’d use to describe my reaction to a first visit to the Food Market. First: lets check some boxes: artisanal cocktails, locally sourced ingredients, seasonal menu, curated (but small) wine list, exuberant vibe (big room, hard surfaces). The menu was in my opinion, exceptionally large with both small plates, interesting salads options and a thoughtful spectrum of entrees. The kitchen nailed the short ribs and pork tacos, missed the target (slightly) on the salt & pepper tuna (need to source better tuna). Unchopped salad and skiiny Greek salad were exactly as advertised. Curious to try on the next visit: risotto encrusted mozzarella and a brown sugar pork belly

So the menu is large and the kitchen seems at ease with its scale. The pricing/portion/quality ratio (always elusive) has been tamed and the Food Market warrants more than a couple of visits to sample its wares. A note on table tending: our server Brittany was exceptional - a great tableside rap (that may not be teachable), solid F & B knowledge, and the sixth sense of meal timing that is truly rare.

4 of us headed to dinner Friday - we were a little late due to traffic and had tickets to the theater at 8:00, which we let the waitress know when we were seated. She assured us we would have time for appetizers and dinner - would not feel rushed and would have an enjoyable meal - and she was absolutely right! Appetizers for the table were the buffalo pickle chips, pork belly and cracker fried oysters, All were very tasty - and would recommend any and all! 3 of us ordered the chilean sea bass which was prepared perfectly - nice crust on top and very flaky fish, served with a yummy spaghetti squash. The 4th in our party ordered the shortribs and claimed they had excellent flavor. We skipped dessert and decided the next time we would try several of the small plates as they all sounded really interesting and would definitely leave time for a sweet ending :)

new restaurant in Hampden with parking difficult to find although for dinner they do valet parking
Variety of food selections better than the avg eggs and bacon but everything seemed to have a spice or kick to it. Disappointed in what I ordered but other plates seen on tables around us seemed more interesting....be sure to ask about the items because the names and descriptions listed on menu don't seem to help with decisions. Felt rushed by server the minute we sat down...he got our drinks mixed up and had to be asked repeatedly for items he had forgotten like cream and sugar for coffee...their idea of fried pickles is more like fried zucchini....not what you get when you are in the south. Perhaps dinner selections are better as most reviews seem to indicate...prefer Woodbury Kitchen but can see why this place is perfect for neighborhood locals and those close by but not worth the drive from Howard County.

I think this is a new restaurant and if so, they seemed to have hit their stride relatively early. I was impressed with the selection of various kinds of dishes offered. I had an herb-crusted sea bass and it was very good. I was also impressed with one other thing. The staff seemed to treat the customers like family with sincere friendly greetings and joking around. It is rare to see this kind of interaction in non-italian restaurants.
