“Nice artsy, eclectic and LGBT Community”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2014

Mt. Vernon has a nice array of restaurants, coffee shops and bars. It has a couple nice museums and unusual shops and neighbors who are as friendly as can be. This is a very highly dense LGBT community so the majority of the gay bars/restaurants are situated in this district. The only drawback is that a few blocks away is a not so nice neighborhood so stay on alert when walking on the streets and stay in well lit areas. Overall it's a nice neighborhood and we frequent this area often.

“Don't waste your time”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 20, 2014

We stayed in this area instead of Inner Harbor seeking charm and maybe some boutique shopping. It didn't seem to have much of either. The area around the George Washington monument is nice, but nothing seemed to be open in the early evening and all of the side streets were far from charming. I didn't feel unsafe, but you got the vibe by 8 pm that it was time to go back to the hotel and walking around wasn't preferable. Next time, I will stay in Fells Point as it had what I was looking for in shopping and restaurants and charm. I will say that Sotto Sopra in Mt. Vernon was so yummy! That was the ONLY positive about this area - that and it wasn't very far from Penn Station or Inner Harbor.

I walked from Baltimore's Inner Harbor to this area... Quite a hike!!! It was well worth it!!! This area has the old history, but now an eclectic mix of shops & restaurants... I would make the long hike again!!!

“Perfect for all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

We were there while it was pouring down rain but that did not stop us. We love history and to be here and see the George Washington Monument is outstanding. Can easily spend an entire day in the Mount Vernon area. There are multiple stops for the Charm City Circulatory (free public transit system) in this area so it is easy to visit this wonderful district.
