It's a great neighborhood to walk around and try to peak in windows. It looks like Europe. The park in the center is gorgeous and maintained by volunteer residents. Try to go into The Engineers Club on the park and just look.

Yes the Inner Harbor is Great but a place where you meet other tourists not the locals. I wanted to get off the beaten track and took a walk along St Charles St. I was not disappointed. There is a timeless feel about the Mt Vernon area. I walked from the inner harbor to my hotel several times. The Book Fair is special. I wa sin town on business and was not able to spend as much time as I wanted browsing through the book stacks. I was blessed with great weather. I loved seeing the Washington Memorial (yes Baltimore has one too) The book fair is in the square surrounding it. If you get tired of walking you can jump on the CharmCity Circulator Purple route goes through here. It was a wonderful experience walking through this area.

The Mount Vernon area is home to some great monuments, churches which are older than America itself, unique bars, shops, and restaurants, and close to everything you need.

It is a really cool older neighbourhood that has a unique charm to it I have not seen in many other cities. It is up there with Old Montreal without the crowds. I walked it both in the day time and at night, and never once felt unsafe. I have heard several stories about what a terrible place Baltimore is, but I would disagree with every one of them. I had a great time, staying in this area, and would not hesitate to go back.

Went here for dinner and a jazz concert. Lovely neighbourhood. Beautiful monuments. Baltimore in it's historical splendour well restored.
