“Out of the ordinary”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

I spent a weekend at the Inn and it was my first time in Baltimore. I must say this place contributed to make my stay memorable.

This is not your ordinary hotel room, as it could well be bigger than your own apartment. The rooms are absolutely huge, with full living/dining room, large bathroom with full double jaccuzzi and shower, and a large room with a great closet. If you are in for a long stay in Baltimore, there can be no better place.

I loved the fact that the structure is actual concrete walls (i.e., little outside noise), and the decor is raw mediterranean: painted walls in warm colors, concrete floors, rugs instead of carpet. Free wine and water in the fridge (if only all hotels were like this!), a super comfy bed and breakfast cooked to order delivered to your room (or at the Agora Cafe downstairs, except Sundays). Last but not least, a non invasive, super friendly assistance from the young staff.

The only odd thing that gets time to get used to are the sensor lights, which I quickly learned how to manage, but still had to get up one time to switch it off as a brisk move to snooze my alarm triggered the lights on. Minor damages thought.

The hotel itself was great, but location turned out to be perfect. You are right in between the nice restaurants and shops at the Inner Harbor, and the bars and nightlife of Fells Point, without having to endure noise or any sort of traffic that you may find in either of these (especially the noise). I was on a lower floor facing the street and had no problem with noise.

You can easily walk to many of the attractions in Baltimore from here, park your car nearby or take one of the free city circulators that stop right by the hotel. There was plenty to see here and whenerver I decide to come back this wll certainly be my first choice.

Room Tip: You will likely get low noise at any floor, but higher floors might give you open harbor views.

Greetings Lune14:

Thank you for visiting The Inn at The Black Olive and spending your stay in historical Fells Point with us. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your stay and sharing your thoughts and experiences with the TripAdvisor Community.

We are all so happy to hear you had such a great stay at the Inn and we were able to contribute to a memorable first stay in Charm City. Your very detailed review is much appreciated and your feedback will be passed on.

Your comment about the lighting is an issue we are looking into resolving as other guests have had the same problem. It is a feature that is often difficult to adjust to but we must have in order to keep in compliance with the LEED platinum certification. One tip we have been recently suggesting to guests while we give our room tours is you can always manually turn off the lamps in the rooms if you would like which will override the motion sense.

Knowing the number of quality hotel choices in the Baltimore Charm City area, we appreciate you choosing The Inn at The Black Olive.

If I can assist you with anything in the future please don’t hesitate to contact me at Ryan@theblackolive.com. We look forward to welcoming you back.

My husband and I were impressed with this B&B. Very clean rooms and we enjoyed the style. Overall a great place and we would stay there again. There were a couple things we would have changed if we could have. The only TV was in the living room - it would've been nice to have one in the bedroom. The living room only had curtain sheers which left me feeling like people could see in (we were on the 4th floor, though). The bed sheets were kind of rough - they were loud when my husband & I moved around in our sleep. Finally, we wanted to take a romantic bath but the only light in the bathroom was a bright one - dimmers or a less harsh light would have been better for romance! Again, we would stay there again but a couple things could be changed to make it incredible!

Greetings NikElic:

Thank you for visiting The Inn at The Black Olive and spending your stay in historical Fells Point with us. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to write a review about your stay and sharing your thoughts and experiences with the TripAdvisor Community.

We are all so happy to hear you had such a great stay and that you will be back.

Your feedback about the room has been taken very seriously as we don’t ever receive negative feedback about our bed linens and we are looking into that.

You mentioned that the only TV is in the living room and that is correct; this is consistent in all of our rooms (except for room 44 which does have a TV in the bedroom). We view the bedroom as a tranquil area to rest and relax and a TV can often take away from that stress free environment. In the near future, we may take into consideration adding an additional TV to all bedrooms because of the high demand and we take guest satisfaction as our number one priority.

We do consistently get negative feedback about our lighting which is a feature to keep in lines of the LEED platinum certification. We have been looking into how we can change by adding dimming features and hope to have that happen in the near future. I apologize if the lighting had any sort of negative impact on your stay.

Knowing the number of quality hotel choices in the Baltimore Charm City area, we appreciate you choosing The Inn at The Black Olive.

I simply love the Inn at Black Olive...The rooms are spacious; the bed is unbelievable; breakfast freshly cooked and delivered to the room every day.
The staff and service are unequalled...Ryan--you are the best!! Dimitri--all of you feel like family...We stay there whenever we are in Baltimore and can not think of a better place to stay. We have travelled the world--stayed at many Four Seasons/Aman/Banyan Tree etc.....
For a feeling of relaxation and comfort in an urban setting.....The Inn is without equal!! You will have the best night's sleep of your life!!!

Room Tip: Ask for Woody Harrelson's room....

We stayed at the black olive this weekend for the Ravens game and to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. I couldn't be happier with our experience. The customer service is exceptional, the staff are super friendly and pay attention to every little detail. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. I love that it is Eco friendly from the bed which is like sleeping on a cloud to the hairdriers. The bathroom is amazing with the large shower and the relaxing whirlpool tub for two. There is complimentary wine which I loved and a full complimentary breakfast delivered to your room in the morning it was delicious. The price is a steal for the service that is provided. We have stayed at more expensive hotels in the city and they don't even come close to the black olive. We will be staying here again on future trips!!

We recently returned from our stay at this hotel. We are not, by any means an eco friendly couple. We barely recycle. Upon entrance of the hotel, the lobby is extremely small. We stayed in the vip suite(waste of the extra hundred per night). The gentleman that showed us to our room was fabulous, from check in to check out. The room was very cold(not in temperature, but in ambiance). It was extremely large, though lacked furniture. I will not bore you with the rest of the details, but this hotel is wonderful for those who live an all natural lifestyle, but this hotel was not for us and has been chalked up to a VERY expensive learning experience.

*added notes... Parking is not the rate stated on the website, though was not terribly expensive. It cost us 36.00 for three full days. Also, the fifth floor restaurant was not good at all, nor was the breakfast.

I stayed at the Inn recently--in October 2012. The two night stay was a pleasure in all ways. Quiet place. The windows opened onto a balcony...an unusual thing to find these days--fresh air in a hotel room. The service and attention from the front desk and others was wonderful. The room was enormous with an amazing whirlpool tub, and sustainable materials used throughout. The crab cakes were superb. This Inn is a remarkable place, and in an interesting area of the city with access to many points of interest. I will not hesitate to return there. Fantastic place.

We can't wait to return! We were treated like family friends and VIPs all at the same time. Starting with our greeting by the front desk host, Stephen, who not only helped us unload our car, but made sure the restaurant stayed open late so we could have dinner. His personal touch was the perfect beginning to a marvelous stay. Our after-hours dining in the rooftop restaurant was delicious and the staff was so accommodating and engaging. We got great tips on neighborhoods to visit, Charm City politics, and the value of organic living. The room was spacious, airy, and had the most comfortable bed ever. Not to mention whirlpool bath and garden shower. We almost didn't want to leave the room. But glad we did, because the cafe downstairs, Agora, was delightful. We received complimentary breakfast there, including farm fresh eggs and green smoothies. Great local coffee too. This is really just a gloss, as we received many amenities that made us feel at home, and received a special gift, hand delivered by the gracious owner, Demitri and his superstar host Ryan. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: California Spa room is a winner.
