This is an iconic looking restaurant, constructed to look like a ship at the intersection of two busy streets in Fells Point. The food is your typical Baltimore seafood cooked fairly well. The drinks are reasonably priced and the deserts are wonderful! We were promptly seated (without a reservation) and received nice service from our waitress.

My wife and I went on our date night, ready to dig in. We called 20 mins before arriving to confirm all you can eat crabs. We arrived and got seated. Got our menus. We asked for the $30 AYCE crabs. "We're sold out of that because a big group came in 3hrs ago. Go figure.

We took the water taxi from the Inner Harbor and it drops you off right at the restaurant. We ordered 6 jumbo crabs for the two of us along with an order of hush puppies (great) and a pitcher of Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA (also great). Our waitress, Kim, was very friendly and attentive. She also demonstrated how to expertly disassemble the crabs, which were delicious. We sat outside on the dock by the water at picnic tables covered in paper. It completely met my expectations, which were very high. I highly recommend Captain James' and kudos to Kim for the great service.

We came here expecting a tourist trap. We reserved for the restaurant (the crabhouse doesn't accept reservations) and ordered quite a few dishes. The bread was very good, and the calamari was among the best we've ever had. The steam pot special was full of good mussels, shrimp, and potatoes. The ribs were lean and juicy, falling off the bone cleanly. The mashed potatoes were also pretty good. The dozen medium crabs we ordered were okay but certainly not the best in the Baltimore area. The snow crab legs were likewise average and almost tasteless without butter. Our server seemed to be caught in a territorial feud with one of the other servers, but it was resolved fairly early. Prices are what we expected for a seafood restaurant. We won't be coming back for the crab, but we will consider for the other dishes.

My wife and I have eaten at Captain James Crabhouse many times over the years and have thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, the view, and the crabs. Last night was a perfect night in Baltimore. We ordered a dozen large crabs which in fact were large and very full and meaty. Now comes the disaster. My wife and I are in our 70's. The tables at Captain James Crabhouse are large picnic tables with benches and the legs are recessed approx. two to three feet towards the center of the table. Our table had nobody sitting on the other end to counter-balance us. When we had finished and slide towards the end of the bench the table tipped over throwing both my wife and I onto the deck. Customers immediately came to our rescue and helped us up but the manager never helped or asked if we were alright or make sure we weren't injured. In fact he said it was our fault and really very nasty and didn't want to comp. anything off the tab. He finally decided to comp. the pitcher of beer. If you go there please be aware of the tables so this doesn't happen to you.
