“Lovely B&B, close to downtown attractions”
Reviewed November 17, 2010

Beautifully restored historic rowhouse. Comfortable beds, delicious breakfast. Great service. Had to leave early in the morning (7am) but still got breakfast and even got a little "lunch bag" with freshly made muffins and water. Close to Convention Center and Camden Yards train station. Easy access to free City Circulator Bus. Walking distance to Inner Harbour.

Our first visit to Rachel’s Dowry was everything we hoped for and more! Our room was elegantly appointed and very comfortable. We stayed in the Ella Virginia Bath Suite where a long hot bath was exactly the perfect thing to do after travelling. The room was immaculate; no detail forgotten. The king size bed and linens were most luxurious. The gourmet breakfast was absolutely yummy! The location was perfect. Close proximity to the airport. Very easy to walk about town. Tish & Norman made our visit very special from the moment we entered the front door! The only problem was leaving! We can’t wait to return!

Wow! What a great B&B. Loved the accommodations and the proprietors, Tish and Norm, who's company was a joy. Also loved that George Washington had stayed there and was very impressed by the tasteful, authentic decor. Very comfortable bed. Parking on site was a real plus.

We were in Baltimore for a funeral and looked online to find a clean, comfortable, relaxing place to stay for one night. We found it! We had booked two rooms: Odorian and Ella Virginia. Both rooms were lovely. The place is located very conveniently near Camden Yard and easily accessed by Route 95, yet it was on a quiet street. We found it without a problem in the dark. We had a late check-in (after 8 p.m.), and we were told to give them a ring when we were on Washington Blvd. We called, and they came out the front door, told us where to park (off-street, behind the house, no charge), and they met us at our car and offered to help us carry in our luggage. We were shown around the house before going up to our rooms (another couple was also staying the night we were there). Both rooms were roomy and exceedingly clean. Each had its own character. One room had a 3/4 bathroom that was a step-up and a sink in the bedroom; the other had a full bath with soaking tub and roomy shower. The linens were plush and clean. Both rooms had a remote-controlled electric fireplace and small flatscreen tvs -- we didn't use these at all. Both rooms had ceiling fans (very nice to have!) Both had king-sized beds that were excellent. (One note: the pillows in the Ella Virginia room were large and seemed "hard"--both my sister and I actually travel with our own pillows, so it wasn't a problem really, except that she would have liked a soft, smaller pillow to put over her head! In the other room, both sleepers used the pillows provided and didn't make any comments + or -). Given that we were not couples sharing the king-sized beds, we appreciated the quality of the mattresses. (My sister meant to look and see what brand it was because it was so comfortable.) We had an excellent night's sleep. One room was on the garden side, and one room was on the front of the house. We experienced no city noise at all -- and we're from very quiet places!
Once we had dropped our things in our rooms (plenty of closet space), we walked around the corner to a local establishment for a bite to eat. The place we went to "Frank and Nic's West End Grille" was recommended by the owners, who had also just eaten there that evening. They made a couple recommendations of items to try, which we did. There was also a pub and another restaurant right nearby. The Hilton is across the street. We had a nice meal and were given keys to the outside door so we could return at our leisure. When we got back, four glasses and a bottle of Amaretto were set out on a silver tray for us, as well as some delicious homemade cookies. The library is a cozy, comfortable room for a chat.
We had been asked when we arrived what time we needed breakfast. So in the morning, when we came down at 8 o'clock, the coffee was brewed to perfection based on a request and the tea was wonderful (we had brought along our own teabags because we're picky, but we absolutely didn't need to use them!). Breakfast consisted of homemade granola with yogurt and a slice of homemade (pumpkin, I think) bread with fresh-squeezed orange juice --as the first course. Then we were presented with a plate that had two slices of bacon (cooked just right) and a delicious apple concoction made with eggs. I don't know what it was exactly, but we all ate every bite! The owner was extremely pleasant and engaging; it felt like we were friends who were staying in her home.
Unfortunately, we had to leave and head out to the funeral. We could have imagined staying for a longer period of time.
Our only complaint is that it's not located in Pennsylvania near our brother's house so we could go visit him regularly!
We would stay here again the next time we were in Baltimore. CLEAN COMFORTABLE RELAXING Personal service. Good location. A bit of an oasis. Don't bother going elsewhere.

Flying in from Orlando FL to visit some family and friends in the Baltimore area I wanted to try something new and gave Rachel's Dowry a call...I'm glad I did! Not only is the property gorgeous, the staff exceeded my expectations and made my visit a memorable one. I visit the area about three times a year and plan on enjoying Rachel's Dowry again!

My husband and I stayed here with our two adult children; both of whom participated in the Baltimore marathon. It was great in so many ways !! Rachael's Dowry is only one block away from Camden yard, the start line for the marathon. The Bed and Breakfast is a lovely, remodeled home where George Washington spent a night in the late 1700s. The rooms were beautiful, private and comfortable with in-bedroom bath and really, really comfortable beds. The breakfasts were yummie and there are cookies and brandy in the library. The patio is lovely in the back. The co-owner Tish is delightful and so fun to visit with. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast

This was one of the most charming hotels I have ever stayed in. The building and room are impeccably and tastefully decorated, reflecting historical decor while still being comfortable and not stuffy or shabby. There is a charming parlor and library with cognac and homemade cookies out every night, and the hosts serve a wonderful homemade breakfast with greek yogurt, fresh-squeezed OJ, and a casserole, breakfast meat, and coffee cake of some kind that varies each morning. They will accomodate any dietary restrictions. The rooms are beautiful, too: very clean, with high beds and the most comfortable mattresses ever. Plus, you cannot hear a thing in those rooms. I literally had the best nights-sleep I've had since I was a teenager. Rachael's Dowry is an absolutely charming oasis in the heart of Baltimore, just steps away from the harbor, stadiums, and lots of restaurants. And the best thing about them was how welcoming Tish and her brother Norman were: they made the effort to memorize all my family's names right away and were warm and friendly without being at all pushy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone going to Baltimore. With free parking (which is rare at the hotels in Bmore), free breakfast, and free cookies and drinks at night, it is more than worth the price!
