“Great for hotel and customer service”
Reviewed April 25, 2014

Wonderful hotel. Interior and historic decor is beautiful. The customer service was CLASS A especially by concierges and front desk staff. The rooms were spacious.Staff was extremely accomodating. Wine hour was great, very full, which one can expect for free wine, as it is $8 glass in the hotel bar. Room was clean with exception of the tub. The decor of the B&O railraod, reminded me of monopoly. Loved the security of the hotel which required room keys for access to floors in the elevators. The rooms are great sizes for families as well. Rooms are quiet. I recommend Mick O'Sheas for lunch or happy hour drinks, very small pub, but excellent service and food. =
I would have rated it 5/5, but here is what could use some improvements or the cons.
There is limited good view of the city or harbor; and we stayed in a suite, really not a big deal since we were rarely in the room, so this did not affect my rating..
The enormous whirlpool tub, was a bit grimey, as this is something I always clean in any hotel before taking a dive. I used a wash cloth and cleaned the jets , which were required me to use two since there were so many jets and they were filthy. This is one thing that should be cleaned after every checkout, clearly they are not. The carpet in the room had a massive rip and was torn up outside the bathroom about 6x8 inches. We booked the romance package, and upon our arrival we had to call twice for our wine and itty bitty back of 3 lindor chocolates.. our dinner reservations were at 7, needless to say our wine and chocolates did not arrive until we were out at dinner, i was hoping to enjoy this before dinner, but the free wine was just as accomodating. Again no biggie but arrival time of the wine could have been improved.

We spent a couple nights here as we were working our way back home to Western New York from Virginia. We weren't planning a visit to Baltimore initially, but we always wanted to see the Harbor there, so we pulled an audible and looked at options on the fly. Having stayed at the Monaco in Old Town Alexandria VA a few times, and travelling with our 125lb German Shepherd, the Kimpton chain with their legendary service and pet-friendly nature, jumped out at us.... and I'm glad it did.

The place was as expected in the service and cleanliness area, awesome. But the fact that this particular one is in an old refurbished railroad hotel, gave it just a little bit of extra oomph in the atmosphere area. The marble entrance and epic dual staircases, fireside lobby, and the old-style guest rooms with 12ft ceilings, were neo-retro chic..... but real casual...smart casual would be a great descriptor.

The doormen, desk staff, and everyone else were awesome.

The restaurant (B&O) was quite excellent - as was room service - and our favorite part is always the 5:00 happy hour in the lobby.

We are big Kimpton fans, and this place did not disappoint.

You can never go wrong when you stay at a Kimpton property. This building is Breath Taking but a little confusing as to where to go once you enter. We asked the Valet and they directed us to the correct set of elevators and we were on our way. We were able to check in early and explore the town. Our room was well decorated and had all the normal amenities of a Kimpton including the yoga mat. I wish we could have stayed longer in order to experience this historical property better and the city too.

. I could not have been more pleased with my stay at The Monaco. This was my first stay in a Kimpton Hotel, and we couldn't have a had a more pleasant experience! The room was fantastic, the service was superior, and all of the staff that we encountered throughout out our stay, were friendly and engaging. We couldn't have been happier.

I have stayed with Kimpton in a few cities and every room I've ever had has been a two bedroom and featured a separate living space. The pictures online made it seem like all rooms came with a living space. When we got to our room, there was a separate room but was tiny and was unfurnished. It was a let down because is the primary reason I stay with Kimpton when in major cities.

Stayed here for only one night but had a blast. The hotel was very clean and the rooms were pretty nice. The restored lobby area is definitely impressive and makes you feel like you are staying somewhere special as soon as you arrive. The evening Wine hour was a good way to kick off our evening and the attached restaraunt and bar is also pretty special - if you are a fan of cocktails you will enjoy the selection, and not at a rediculous price. Staff were also incredibly friendly and helpfull. The only trick with this hotel is that reception is that the lobby is actually one floor up, and when we arrived there was no-one on the first floor to direct us. But after a quick walk up the impressive staircases (or you can take the lifts) we were there and check-in ran very smoothly.

I will be looking forward to staying at more Kimpton Hotels into the future

If it was not for the beautiful hip looks of the hotel I would have given you one star. The staff were terrible. The valet was very rude. When leaving the hotel to check out the area they were disappointed because we did not ask for a taxi. the lady at the desk at night did not acknowledge me when I approached the desk. She was just looking at her screen. I asked for a wine opener and it took about 45 minutes to be delivered.

I stay at Kimpton for special occasions. This was more of a Hilton experience!

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice
