“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

Since this was a short getaway, I wanted something special in a hotel. I chose the Monaco because it was the headquarters of the B&O Railroad prior to being remodeled, and the photos looked really nice. Well, it was more than really nice. It's GORGEOUS! The glory of days past is alive and well in the main entrance with its curving marble staircase, and every inch of the recently-remodeled building is just special. The hotel offers every amenity, including a wine-and-appetizer reception at 5 every evening in the main lobby with its fireplace and views of the city. That's a freebie and definitely a nice welcome to the hotel.

We had a "Mediterranean Suite" which was perfect in every way...and not over-priced! Cheaper than the "small suite" (which is a large room with a sofa) at the average Marriott, this was a legitimate four rooms with lots of privacy and the most beautiful spa shower/whirlpool bath room I've seen to date.

The walk to the Inner Harbor is longer from the Monaco than from some of the hotels that are right on the waterfront, but the five blocks was not a problem for us. We're old, but not infirm, and we enjoyed the walk several times during the weekend.

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: The Mediterranean Suites are perfection for a lovely getaway!

My fiance and I are already planning when we can visit Baltimore and stay at the Monaco again. From the moment we were greeted by (Vijay?) at the front desk, I knew we were in for a great stay. We were able to upgrade to a King room with a soaking tub, which made our trip even better! The room was spacious, and the high ceilings made it seem even larger. The room was quiet and we were able to sleep comfortably. Kimpton has some nice touches, like CO Bigelow bath products (Fiance liked so much that we are going to buy some) and animal print robes. The bedding was soft and the mattress was comfy. There was also a nice chair for sitting and reading. The wifi was free with the in touch program, and it was efficient enough to download a book and all my web surfing needs. It was a short walk (10 minutes or so) to the Inner Harbor and Power Plant Live! where we saw a concert. We really are excited to plan another weekend in BMore and stay at the Monaco again!

Room Tip: King with soaking tubs are wonderful!

Green Features: Recycling bins in the room were a nice bonus. Also, you can reuse your towels by hanging them up.

This hotel is right in the middle of everything that happenin' in Baltimore City! It's right near Orioles Park and it's within walking distance of the Baltimore Aquarium. The lobby is BEAUTIFUL with super high ceiling, awesome architecture and grand stairways! I loved booking Kimpton hotels because they offer suites with the Jacuzzi tubs. The staff was also very friendly.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2013

Had the opportunity to spend four nights at the Hotel Monaco in October on a mini-vacation. After staying at the Hotel Lumen in Dallas, I was excited to see what this Kimpton property would offer. After all, the LUMEN is the best kept secret in Dallas.
First of all, the reviews are right - the hotel lobby is stunning. Beautiful staircase, beautiful tiffany windows and stunning lobby. Even the rooms are appointed nicely. Great pillows, stunning views of Baltimore and clean. I can pretty much stay anywhere as long as it is clean!
So, where did they fall short? It's the little things - mini-bar was not restocked the entire time I was there (4 nights). Coffee was not replenished (secret of Kimpton - they will give you a coffee maker if you ask and they have one available). It was great having coffee the first morning, but after that, pretty useless. If there was coffee, then there was no cup. Housekeeping kept taking the coffee cup and not replacing it. On my final morning, as I was getting in the shower - I noticed that they hadn't re-stocked the washcloths. Had to use a hand-towel to wash my face. And, I also noticed that the shampoo bottle that had fallen on the floor of the shower 2 days earlier, was never picked up. You see - it is the little things. Those things take a five star possibility into a 3 star experience.
Would I stay there again? Maybe. Baltimore is a beautiful city - the hotel was a bit far to all the great restaurants and attractions. And, a bit sketchy at night - definitely not somewhere you would want to walk after dark (as lovingly cautioned to me by the bellmen when I took out one night to walk to the Hippodrome. Front desk staff - courteous, Bellmen - exceptional.
Get the rest of it right and this hotel will give any property a run for its money.

Room Tip: High floor gives the best views

Green Features: Kimpton is a leader in this area, and this Hotel has the same practices.

Came in to Baltimore to get married..... the hotel staff treated us like gold! The hotel itself is beautiful, but the staff makes the difference. Wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else when we visit Baltimore!

Went to Baltimore for a weekend get away and stayed at the Monaco. The staff is very pleasant and extremely helpful. They are very knowledgeable about the city, restaurants, directions, attractions etc. The room was nice with a large bathroom and shower. The A/C however made a lot of noise all night long. There are no scenic views but the hotel is centrally located, a short walk to the inner harbor and many eateries.

I've stayed at a few places in Baltimore and this is definitely the best. It is a very nice hotel, located (like many Kimpton properties) in a historic building that has been lovingly redone. I was in town for a convention and it is an easy walk to the convention center. Even though I was on the 11th floor, there was some noise from the street that was a bit irritating, so if you are easily bothered, ask for a high floor.

The neighborhood is OK, about as good as you are going to get in downtown Baltimore, which I find a bit dodgy everyplace. There is a good restaurant attached.

Room Tip: Pick a room on a higher floor for less street noise.
